Total population decrease continued, mainly influenced by the declining number of live births
As of June 30,2025, the Slovak Republic had 5,413,813 inhabitants, which was 8,471 persons less compared to the same period of the previous year (5,422,284 inhabitants ). The share of women in the total population was 51.08%.
In the 2nd quarter of 2025, there were 10,036 live births in the Slovak Republic, which was 1,355 less than in the same period of the previous year, and 12,675 persons died, i. e. 320 more more than in the 2nd quarter of the previous year. The natural decrease of the population represented 2,639 persons, it deepened by 1,675 persons compared to the 2nd quarter of 2024.
The net foreign migration reached 455 persons (there were 1,593 immigrants and 1,138 emigrants) in the 2nd quarter of 2025, it was 126 less than in the same period of the previous year.
The total decrease of the population of the Slovak Republic at the end of the assessed period was 2,184 persons, compared to the 2nd quarter of 2024 it deepened by 1,801 persons (in the 2nd quarter of 2024, the total population decrease was 383 persons).
