Definition

A visitor is a traveller taking a trip to a main destination outside his/her usual environment, for less than a year, for any main purpose (business, leisure or other personal purpose) other than to be employed by a resident entity in the country or place visited.

A traveller is a person who travels between different geographic locations, for any purpose and any duration.

A visitor is a traveller taking a trip to a main destination outside his/her usual environment, for less than a year, for any main purpose (business, leisure or other personal purpose) other than to be employed by a resident entity in the country or place visited.

Visitors are a subset of travellers.

Differencies between Travellers and Visitors

Traveller

  • travels between different geographical location

  • any duration

Visitor

  • destination outside his/her usual environment
  • any (main) purpose other than to be employed by a resident entity in the country or place visit
  • for less than a year

Classification of visitors according to lenght of tourism trip:

  • Tourists (Overnight visitors)
  • Same-day visitors (Visitors without overnight stay)

Trips taken by visitors are tourism trips.
