Definition

Child showing at least one of the following signs of life at birth, i.e. breathing, heart beat, pulsation of the umbilical cord, active movement of muscles even in case the umbilical cord was not cut or the placenta was not delivered.

At the same time, the birth weight is:

a) 500 and more grams or

b) 499 grams and less if a child survives 24 hours after its birth.

Since 2012, the number of live births has not included children born abroad by mothers with a permanent residence in the Slovak Republic, they have been included in the number of immigrants upon the first registration for permanent residence in the Slovak Republic.
