Definition

An eight-digit commodity description and coding system in the Common Customs Tariff of the European Union used to apply tariff and non-tariff measures to imports and exports of goods (e.g. determining the customs duty rate for a specific commodity) and to obtain data needed to compile statistics on imports and exports of goods (statistical nomenclature). It enables uniform classification of goods in all Member States of the European Union.
