Inflation in households of pensioners rose to 1.5%
Inflation - price growth in May 2024 in Slovakia, was published by the Statistical Office of the SR on June 14. On a regular monthly basis, at a later date, it also publishes detailed structures of the price growth rate for selected social groups. More detailed structures of the consumption basket for the month of May are published on June 26.
In May, the prices in Slovakia increased by 2.2% year-on-year. Inflation was lower in the households of pensioners and in low-income households. Year-on-year price growth in pensioner households reached 1.5%, in low-income households 2.2%. Households of employees experienced a year-on-year price growth by 2.4%.
The biggest impact on the price growth index for individual social groups compared to the average was reflected in higher prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, but also in the slower pace of price increases in transportation, recreation and culture and in housing and energy. The inflation rate for the three specific social groups has different values because of the different expenditure structure of these households within the consumption basket.
In total for the first five months of 2024, consumer prices within the entire SR increased by 2.8% year-on-year, in the households of employees it was by 2.9%, in low-income households by 2.7%, in the households of pensioners by 2.2%.
