Development of consumer prices in March 2019

In March compared with February, consumer prices increased by 0,6 % in total.  Prices rose in the divisions of transport by 2,5 %; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; clothing and footwear equally by 1,6 %;  food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1 %; miscellaneous goods and services by 0,4 %; health; restaurants and hotels equally by 0,3 %; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0,2 %. Prices of furniture and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; recreation and culture decreased equally by 0,2 %. Prices of communications; education were at the level of the last month.

Higher prices of food by 1,2 % were affected by rise in prices of fruit by 4,3 %, bread and cereals by 1,5 %; milk, cheese and eggs; oils and fats equally by 1,3 %; meat; food products n.e.c. equally by 0,8 %; sugar, jam, honey, syrups, chocolates and confectionary by 0,3 %; fish; vegetables (including potatoes) equally by 0,1 %. Prices of non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 0,4 % (coffee, tea and cocoa by 0,9 %, prices of mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices did not change).

Price increases of fruit were affected by higher prices of bananas by 10 %,  tangerines by 6,7 %, kiwi by 3,1 %, oranges by 2,6 %. Prices of lemons dropped by 0,5 %, table grapes, apples equally by 0,2 %. Price increase of meat was affected by higher prices of sausages by 1 %, poultry by 0,2 %. Prices of beef meat decreased by 0,3 %. Prices of pork meat did not change. Higher prices of vegetables were affected by price increases of pepper by 8,3 %, white cabbage by 6,8 %, potatoes by 5,8 %, salad cucumbers by 5,4 %, onion by 3,2 %, garlic by 1,2 %. Prices of tomatoes dropped by 17,2 %, cauliflower by 13,1 %, parsley by 1,3 %, celery by 1,2 %, carrot by 0,6 %.

Higher prices in the division of alcoholic beverages and tobacco were affected by increase in prices of tobacco by 2,4 %; alcoholic beverages by 0,8 % (wine by 2,1 %, beer by 0,6 %, spirits by 0,2 %).

Higher prices in the division of clothing and footwear were affected by increases in prices of footwear by 2,2 %; clothing by 1,3 %.

Price increases in the division of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels were affected by higher prices of materials for maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 0,5 %; services related to maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 0,4 %; imputed rentals of owner-occupiers; solid fuels equally by 0,3 %; heat energy by 0,1 %. Prices of refuse collection decreased by 0,2 %. Prices of actual rentals paid by tenants; water supply; sewage collection; other services relating to dwelling; electricity, gas remained at the February level.

Cuts in prices in the division of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance were affected by lower prices of goods and services for routine household maintenance by 0,7 %; tools and equipment for house and garden by 0,2 %; glassware, tableware and household utensils by 0,1 %. Prices of household textiles increased by 0,5 %; furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings by 0,1 %. Prices of household appliances did not changed.

Rise in prices in the health division was influenced by increases in prices of medical products,  medical appliances and equipment by 0,4 % (prices of pharmaceutical products increased by 0,5 %, other medical products by 0,2 %, prices of therapeutic appliances and equipment decreased by 0,1 %); outpatient services (middle medical staff services by 0,4 %, medical services by 0,3 %, prices for dental services did not changed); hospital services equally by 0,1 %.

Increase in prices in transport was caused by higher prices in purchase of transport equipment by 4,6 % (second-hand motor vehicles by 10,1 %); transport services by 2,2 % (passenger transport by air by 17,6 %, passenger transport by road by 0,4 %, other purchase transport services by 0,1 %); operation of personal transport equipment by 1,8 % (prices of fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment increased by 2,4 %, maintenance and repair by 0,4 %, other services related to personal transport equipment by 0,3 %, prices of spare parts and accessories decreased by 1,1 %).

In the division of communication, prices of postal; telephone services were at the level of February. Prices of telephone equipment increased by 0,6 %.

Lower prices in the recreation and culture division affected price cuts of audiovisual and photographic technology; package holidays equally by 0,5 %; other recreational items and equipment for gardens and pets by 0,3 %. Prices of newspapers, books and stationary increased by 0,1%. Prices of other major durable goods for recreation and culture - musical instruments; recreational services and culture did not changed.

In the division of education, prices of secondary; tertiary education; education not definable by the level were at the level of the last month. Prices of pre-primary and primary education rose by 0,1 % (fee in kindergarten by 0,1 %).

Rise in prices of the restaurants and hotels  division was influenced by increases in prices of catering services by 0,4 % (in restaurants, cafes by 0,5 %, payment for meals in canteens for pensioners by 0,9 %, in canteens by 0,1 %) ). Prices of accommodation services did not change.

Increase in prices in the division of miscellaneous goods and services was influenced by higher prices of personal care; personal effects n.e.c. by 0,4 %; financial services n.e.c. by 0,3 % (financial services provided by banks by 0,4 %); social protection (payment for provision of nursing services by 0,2 %, payment in social service facilities by 0,1 %); other services n.e.c. by 0,1 %. Insurance prices did not changed.

In March 2019 compared with March 2018, consumer prices increased by 2,7 % in total. Prices increased in the divisions of alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 4,4 %; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 4,2 %; restaurants and hotels by 3,7 %; food and non-alcoholic beverages by 3,1 %; miscellaneous goods and services by 2,9 %; health by 2,1 %; furniture and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 1,6 %; clothing and footwear by 1 %; transport; education equally by 0,9 %; communications by 0,8 %; recreation and culture by 0,2 %.

On average, over the first three months of 2019 compared with the same period of 2018, consumer prices increased by 2,4 % in total.

In March compared with February, index of consumer prices increased in households of employees and in low-income households equally by 0,6 %,  in households of pensioners by 0,5 %.

In March 2019, index of consumer prices increased, year-on-year, in households of employees by 2,6 %, households of pensioners by 3 % and in low-income households by 2,8 %.

On average, over the first three months of 2019 compared with the same period of 2018, index of consumer prices increased in households of employees by 2,3 %, in household of pensioners by 2,8 %, in low-income households by 2,5 %.
