Turnover in industry accelerated the rate of decline, growing significantly only in selected market services

June´s turnover dropped in 3 out of 5 monthly monitored sectors of the economy, most significantly in industry. Similarly, it recorded an apparent decrease in construction, turnover in transportation and storage was only slightly lower than a year ago. Currently, turnover in selected market services maintain the most stable growth. They also continued increasing in information and communication activities.

Turnover in industrial enterprises1)2), the largest sector of the economy, decreased year-on-year by 9.2% (in constant prices) in June 2024, which was the second highest decrease this year. Among the 16 monitored sectors1), as many as 13 recorded lower turnover values.

June´s turnover in selected market services2) increased by 7.4% year-on-year, so they have been continuously maintaining positive figures for half a year.

Transportation and warehousing enterprises recorded a 0.6% decrease in turnover, which was the first year-on-year decline in the current year.

Turnover2) of construction enterprises in June 2024 dropped by 8.3% year-on-year, thus continuing the downward trend for the tenth consecutive month.

Turnover in information and communication activities2) increased year-on-year by 1.7%, which was the second lowest growth rate this year. Despite this, among the monthly monitored sectors of the Slovak economy, only the turnover of this sector remain in positive values for a long time.

Development in June 2024 compared to May 2024

Turnover in a month-on-month comparison (after seasonal adjustments) dropped in most sectors - in industry by 4.9%, in construction by 2.8%, in information and communication activities by 0.1%. A turnover growth was recorded in selected market services by 5.4%, as well as in enterprises operating in transportation and storage by 1.8%.

Development in the first six months of 2024

In total, for the first six months of 2024, turnover increased year-on-year in selected market services by 6.3%, in information and communication activities by 5.4%, as well as in transportation and storage by 1.8%. On the contrary, cumulative turnover dropped by 7.1% in construction and by 3.8% in industry.

Since 2022, selected market services include business entities that are classified into the divisions 68 to 82 according to the main economic activity of SK NACE. Due to decreasing the burden of the business environment, data are not available on turnover for subjects classified into SK NACE divisions 85 to 96. Turnover therefore do not include information for education (SK NACE division 85), arts, entertainment and recreation, including gaming and betting activities (SK NACE divisions 90 - 93). Also, turnover of enterprises for other activities (SK NACE 95 and 96) to which they belonged among others laundry and dry cleaning, hairdressing and beauty treatment, funeral services, well - being services and other services of predominantly personal nature.
