Employment and average monthly wage in selected sectors of economy in May 2021

Employment increased year-on-year in May 2021 only in selected market services and in information and communication activities. Wage growth was the most significant in accommodation, however, the wage achieved was the lowest.

Employment

In May 2021 compared with May 2020, employment increased in selected market services by 2,9 % and in information and communication by 2,7 %. It decreased the most in accommodation by 9,5 %. The decrease was also in food and beverage services by 5,8 %, in wholesale by 4,7 %, construction by 4,2 %, retail sale by 2,4 %, industry by 2,3 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 0,6 % and in transportation and storage by 0,4 %.

On average, over first five months of 2021, compared to the corresponding period in 2020, employment increased only in information and communication by 1,9 % and in selected market services by 0,2 %. It dropped in accommodation by 19,2 %, in food and beverage service activities by 12,1 %, construction by 7,5 %, wholesale by 6,1 %, retail sale by 4,3 %, industry by 4,2 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 3,4 % and in transportation and storage by 2,8 %.

Average monthly wage

In May, there was a double-digit growth of the average nominal monthly wage almost in all sectors, in accommodation it approached 40 %, however, wage was the second lowest in this sector. In May 2021, the average nominal monthly wage increased the most year-on-year in accommodation by 38,2 % (it reached EUR 741) and in food and beverage service activities by 20,3 % (EUR 575). Other industries recorded an increase of over 10 %, in sales and repair of motor vehicles by 19,4 % (EUR 1 155), in wholesale by 17,9 % (EUR 1 205 ), information and communication activities by 14,9 % (EUR 2 271), industry by 14,3 % (EUR 1 385), retail sale by 12,7 % (EUR 895). ), selected market services by 12,1 % (EUR 1 121), transportation and storage by 12 % (EUR 1 093) and construction by 11,3 % (EUR 808).

In May 2021 compared with May 2020, the average real monthly wage increased the most in accommodation by 35,2 %. There was a double-digit increase also in food and beverage service activities by 17,7 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 16,8 %, wholesale by 15,4 %, information and communication by 12,4 %, industry by 11,8 % and in retail sale by 10,3 %. It rose also in selected market services by 9,7 %, in transportation and storage by 9,6 % and in construction by 8,9 %.

On average, over the first five months of 2021 compared with the corresponding period in 2020, the wage increased in selected market services by 8,9 % (amounted to EUR 1 110), in industry by 8,8 % (EUR 1 246), in construction by 8,3 % (EUR 783), wholesale by 8,3 % (EUR 1 132), information and communication by 6,9 % (EUR 2 156), sale and repair of motor vehicles by 6,5 % (EUR 1 084), retail sale by 6,2 % (EUR 834), transportation and storage by 5,8 % (EUR 1 055), food and beverage service activities by 5,2 % (EUR 546) and in accommodation by 0,6 % (EUR 689).

The real monthly wage increased year-on-year in selected market services by 7,4 %, in industry by 7,3 %, construction and wholesale equally by 6,8 %, information and communication activities by 5,4 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 5 %, retail sale by 4,7 %, transportation and storage by 4,3 % and in food and beverage service activities by 3,7 %. It dropped only in accommodation by 0,8 %.
