Employment and average monthly wage in selected sectors of economy in August 2021

In August 2021, employment increased year-on-year only in information and communication activities and in selected market services, wages rose in all industries.

Employment

In August 2021 compared to August 2020, employment increased only in information and communication activities, by 6,5 % and in selected market services by 0,5 %. In other sectors, it dropped the most in accommodation by 4,6 %. There was a more than 2 % decrease in wholesale and in food and beverage service activities (equally by 2,8 %), in sale and repair of motor vehicles (by 2,5 %) and in retail trade (by 2,2 %). It dropped also in transportation and storage by 0,8 %, in industry by 0,5 % and in construction by 0,2 %.

On average, over first eight months of 2021, compared to the corresponding period in 2020, employment increased in information and communication by 3,2 % and it rose slightly also in selected market services by 0,5 %. It dropped the most in accommodation by 14 %, in food and beverage service activities by 8,8 %. It was lower also in other sectors, in construction by 5,4 %, in wholesale by 5,1 %, in retail trade by 3,7 %, in industry by 2,8 %, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 2,5 % and in transportation and storage by 2,2 %.

Average monthly wage

In August, the average nominal monthly wage increased in all sectors, the most in accommodation where it rose by 19 % (it reached EUR 896). It also recorded double-digit growth also in wholesale by 14 % (EUR 1 205), in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 12,4 % (EUR 1 178), in selected market services by 11,8 % (EUR 1 151) and in food and beverage service activities by 11,6 % (EUR 617). The wages rose year-on-year also in retail trade by 9,7 % (EUR 893), in industry by 9,3 % (EUR 1 231), in transportation and storage by 9,1 % (EUR 1 099), in information and communication activities by 7,5 % (EUR 2 087) and in construction by 7 % (EUR 814).

In August 2021 compared with August 2020, the average real monthly wage increased the most in accommodation by 14,6 %. It rose also in wholesale by 9,8 %, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 8,3 %, in selected market services by 7,7 %, in food and beverage service activities by 7,5 %, in retail trade by 5,7 %, in industry by 5,3 %, in transportation and storage by 5,1 %, in information and communication activities by 3,6 % and in construction by 3,1 %.

On average, over the first eight months of 2021 compared with the corresponding period in 2020, the wage increased in selected market services by 10,2 % (amounted to EUR 1 127), in wholesale by 9,2 % (EUR 1 163), in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 9,2 % (EUR 1 123), in accommodation by 9,1 % (EUR 758), in industry by 8,7 % (EUR 1 243), in food and beverage service activities by 8,1 % (EUR 572), construction by 7,9 % (EUR 796), retail trade by 7,4 % (EUR 854), in information and communication activities by 6,9 % (EUR 2 132) and in transportation and storage by 6,8 % (EUR 1 073).

The real monthly wage increased year-on-year in selected market services by 7,9  %, in wholesale and in sale and repair of motor vehicles equally by 7 %, in accommodation by 6,9 %, in industry by 6,5 %, in food and beverage service activities by 5,9 %, in construction by 5,7 %, in retail trade by 5,2 %, in information and communication activities by 4,7 % and in transportation and storage by 4,6 %.
