Turnover in selected sectors of economy in September 2019

Development in September 2019 in comparison with August 2019 1)

Turnover increased, month-on-month, in construction by 6,6 %, transportation and storage by 3 %, information and communication by 2,6 %, industry by 1,6 % and in selected market services by 1,4 %.

Development in September 2019 compared with September 2018

Turnover in industry continued to decrease, year-on-year, compared with September, it dropped by 4,5 %. The development by the SK NACE sections was affected by decrease in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 20,5 %, mining and quarrying by 4,6 %, manufacturing by 2,6 % and by a rise in water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 5 %.

In terms of particular groupings of industrial sectors, which contributed at most to the total turnover decrease, the most significant drop was recorded in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 20,5 %, in manufacture of transport equipment by 5,3 %, manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 4,9 %, in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 5 % and in  other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 3,5 %. Turnover increased in manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 7,2 %, manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products by 12,7 %, manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco products by 3,3 %, water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 5 % and in manufacture of electrical equipment by 0,7 %.

Turnover in construction again increased after the three-month decrease, compared with September 2018, it rose by 0,6 %.

After the year-on-year decrease in the previous month, turnover in transportation and storage 2) increased again in September. Compared with September 2018, it rose by 5,1 % affected by an increase in warehousing and support activities in transportation by 11,9 % and in postal and courier activities by 23,6 %. Turnover decreased, year-on-year, in land transport and transport via pipelines, in air and water transport.

Turnover in information and communication 3) increased, year-on-year, by 7,3 % affected mostly by a rise in computer programming by 14,7 %. It dropped in motion picture, video and television programme production and in publishing activities. 

In selected market services 4), total turnover increased by 1,2 %. Turnover rose in most activities, mainly in administrative, office support and other business support activities by 25,9 % and architectural and engineering activities by 7,6 %. It dropped mostly in gambling and betting activities.

Development over the first nine months of 2019 in comparison with the same period in 2018

Total turnover in industry increased, year-on-year, by 1,2 %. The development by the sections of SK NACE Rev. 2 was affected by an increase in water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 12,2 %, manufacturing by 2,6 % and by a fall in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 9,6 % and in mining and quarrying by 5,2 %.  In terms of particular groupings of industrial sectors, turnover increased in manufacture of transport equipment by 9 %, other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 8 %, manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 2,5 %, water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 12,2 % and in manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco products by 3,2 %. Turnover decreased, year-on-year in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 9,6 %, manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 2,7 %, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 7,1 %, manufacture of textiles, apparel, leather and related products by 7,9 % and in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 7,3 %.

Turnover in construction enterprises increased by 0,9 %.

Turnover in transportation and storage rose, year-on-year, by 3,6 % affected by a rise in warehousing and support activities for transportation by 7,9 % and in postal and courier activities by 14,6 %. Turnover dropped in land transport and transport via pipelines and in air transport.

Total turnover in information and communication increased by 8,3 %. It rose almost in all activities, mainly in computer programming by 12,1 %,  telecommunication by 5,9 % and in  information service activities by 6,2 %. Turnover decreased only in motion picture, video and television programme production.

In selected market services4), total turnover increased by 7,2 %. It rose mostly in administrative, office support and other business support activities by 12,9 %, real estate activities by 8,8 % and in legal and accounting activities by 6,7 %. Turnover dropped only in travel agencies and tour operator activities.
