In December compared with the value of the previous month, the three-months moving average of the economic sentiment indicator (ESI) decreased by 0,9 points to 97,9. Confidence decreased in industry, trade and services, as well as among customers, only in construction it remained stable. ESI is currently lagging behind the long-term average by 5,7 points while it exceeds the result of the corresponding period last year by 0,4 points.

In December, the confidence indicator in industry decreased by 3,3 percentage points (p p.) to the value -6. The development of the indicator was unfavourably influenced by all the three indicators, mainly by the decrease of the expected production over the next three months and the decrease of orders and the increase of the finished goods stock. In December, the confidence indicator in construction remained at the level of the previous month (-9,0), when the unfavourable development of evaluations of the expected employment was eliminated by the favourable development of the overall level of orders. The current result is exceeding the long-term average by 16 points. In December compared with November, confidence indicator in trade decreased by 1,3 p. p. to 27,0 as a result of negative evaluations of the expected business activities. In December, the confidence indicator in services slightly decreased, its value (7) was lower by 2,3 p. p., compared with November. The indicator´s development was affected mainly by the negative evaluations of the business situation, while the expected demand and the demand over the past three months were evaluated slightly favourably.

In December, the consumer mood in Slovakia deteriorated again. The seasonally adjusted indicator of consumer confidence decreased by 1,4 points to -10,4. Respondents were more pessimistic in all indicator components, mainly in the expectations of the general economic situation, unemployment development and the saving perspectives of households and partly also the financial situation of households. The respondents were less optimistic by 6,7 points than in the corresponding period last year and the current result continues to exceed the long-term average.

Note: The values of the confidence indicator range from -100 (responses of all respondents are maximally pessimistic) to 100 (responses of all respondents are maximally optimistic). Data are seasonally adjusted.
