In July, compared to the same period last year, total exports of goods increased by 3,2 % to EUR 6 010,4 million and total imports decreased by 7,1 % to EUR 5 642,6 million. The balance of foreign trade was in surplus in the amount of EUR 367,8 million.

In January to July 2020, the foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 547,1 million (by EUR 108,6 million lower than in the same period last year).

The Slovak Republic recorded the highest surplus with Germany (EUR 2 417,5 million), France (EUR 1 299,1 million), the United Kingdom (EUR 1 162,8 million), Austria (EUR 1 083,6 million), Poland (EUR 957,6 million), the USA (EUR 654,9 million), Hungary (EUR 653,7 million), Italy (EUR 455,9 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 436,9 million), Romania (EUR 414,9 million) and Sweden (EUR 361,8 million). The largest deficit was recorded with Vietnam (EUR 1 980,4 million), the Republic of Korea (EUR 1 856,5 million), China (EUR 1 696,4 million), the Russian Federation (EUR 1 378,1 million), Malaysia (EUR 228,6 million), Taiwan (EUR 175,1 million) and Japan (EUR 132 million).

Goods in the amount of EUR 39 844,6 million were exported from the Slovak Republic. Compared to the same period of 2019, total exports decreased by 14,3 %.

In terms of goods, the highest decrease was recorded in export of motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for transport of persons by EUR 1 985 million, parts and accessories of motor vehicles by EUR 548,9 million, monitors and projectors, reception apparatus for television by EUR 392 million, flat rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, hot rolled by EUR 244 million EUR and new rubber tires by EUR 219,8 million. The highest increase was recorded in export of structures and their parts from iron and steel by EUR 52,1 million and medicaments for retail sale by EUR 46,6 million.

As regards the most important trading partners, exports to Germany decreased by 15,6 %, the Czech Republic by 15,9 %, Poland by 7,1 %, France by 12,4 %, Hungary by 10 %, Austria by 12,5 %, the United Kingdom by 19,1 %, Italy by 22,9 %, the United States of America by 32,8 %, Romania by 15,2 %, Spain by 27 %, China by 10,1 % and the Netherlands by 7,8 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, exports to EU countries decreased by 14,1 % (representing  79,5 % of total exports of the SR) and to OECD countries by 14,7 % (representing 87,7 % of total exports of the SR).

Goods in the amount of EUR 39 297,5 million were imported to the Slovak Republic, with a year-on-year decrease of 14,3 %.

In terms of goods, imports of parts and accessories of motor vehicles decreased the most by EUR 1 101,4 million, motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons by EUR 435,5 million, wires and cables by EUR 406,9 million, seats, whether or not convertible into beds by EUR 300,6 million and petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons by EUR 288 million. Imports of electric accumulators including their separators increased more significantly by EUR 352,4 million and medicaments for retail sale by EUR 105,2 million.

In relation to the most important trading partners, imports from Germany decreased by 17,3 %, the Czech Republic by 18,1 %, China by 5,1 %, Poland by 14,8 %, the Republic of Korea by 17,9 %, the Russian Federation by 25,1 %, Vietnam by 12,2 %, Hungary by 16,7 %, France by 9,6 %, Italy by 21,2 % and Austria by 17,8 %.

In terms of main economic groupings, compared to the same period of 2019, imports from EU countries decreased by 13,4 % (representing 66,4 % of total imports) and from OECD countries by 17 % (representing 64,9 % of total imports of the SR ).


Note: Data are preliminary at current prices in the FOB-type value. Information was processed by the Statistical Office of the SR on the basis of data from the Customs Section of the Financial Directorate of the SR obtained within the customs clearance and INTRASTAT-SK declarations, which are provided by consignee and consignor of goods. EU data are without the United Kingdom since January 2020. The data for the OECD have included Colombia since January 2020 (it has been a member of the OECD since 28.4.2020).
