Employment also fell year-on-year in September in most sectors, but the pace of decline slowed down in most of them compared with August, wages were lower year-on-year only in accommodation and in the sale and repair of motor vehicles.
Employment
Employment in almost all sectors continued to decline year-on-year also in September, but its pace slowed in most of them. The only sector in which employment increased in September was the sector of information and communication activities, but even here, the growth rate slowed down, rising by only 0,5 % year-on-year. The largest decrease persisted in accommodation by 16,7 % and in restaurants and beverage activities by 9,1 %. There was also a decrease in construction by 8,3 %, industry by 6,1 %, wholesale by 4,8 %, retail trade by 3,8 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 2,9 %, transportation and storage by 1,6 % and in selected market services by 0,4 %.
Also, on average, in the first nine months of 2020, compared to the corresponding period of 2019, employment increased only in information and communication activities, by 3,8 % year-on-year. It decreased in accommodation by 10,8 %, activities of restaurants and beverage service activities by 7,2 %, industry by 5,4 %, construction by 5,3 % , retail trade by 3,9 %, wholesale trade by 3,4 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 2,3 %, selected market services by 1,5 % and in transport and storage by 0,6 %.
Average monthly wage
In September, wages increased year-on-year in most sectors, while their growth rate accelerated compared with August. It developed unfavorably in the sale and repair of motor vehicles, after two months of growth there was a decrease and the year-on-year and wage in accommodation was also lower. In September 2020, compared to September 2019, the largest wage growth was recorded in retail trade by 8 % (it reached EUR 825) and in restaurants and beverage service activities by 7,7 % (EUR 560). It also increased in information and communication activities by 6,2 % (EUR 1 991), in wholesale by 5,6 % (EUR 1 071), in industry by 5,4 % (EUR 1 188), construction by 5 % (EUR 775), in transportation and storage by 3,2 % (EUR 1 037), selected market services by 3,2 % (EUR 1 038). The decrease in the average nominal monthly wage was in accommodation for the seventh month in a row, in September it decreased by 3,2 % year-on-year (reached EUR 775), in sales and repair of motor vehicles it decreased by 0,5 % after two months of growth (EUR 1 052).
The average real monthly wage in September 2020, as well as the nominal wage, fell year-on-year in accommodation and in the sale and repair of motor vehicles. In September 2020, compared to September 2019, it increased in retail trade by 6,5 %, activities of restaurants and beverage service activities by 6,2 %, information and communication activities by 4,7 %, wholesale by 4,1%, industry by 3,9 %, construction by 3,6 %, transport and storage by 1,8 % and in selected market services by 1,8 %. It decreased in accommodation by 4,5 % and in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 1,9 %.
On average in the first nine months of 2020 compared to the corresponding period of 2019, wages increased in retail trade by 5,3 % (reached EUR 799), wholesale by 4,3 % (EUR 1 066), restaurant and beverage service activities by 3,5 % (EUR 532), information and communication activities by 2,1 % (EUR 1 994), selected market services by 1,8 % (EUR 1 024), construction by 1,4 % (EUR 742) and industry by 0,3 % (EUR 1 147). It decreased in accommodation by 9,2 % (EUR 703), in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 0,7 % (EUR 1 031) and in transportation and storage by 0,3 % ( EUR 1 008).
The real monthly wage rose year-on-year, only in retail sale by 3,1 %, in wholesale by 2,2 % and in restaurants and beverage service activities by 1,4 %. It dropped in accommodation by 11,1 %, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 2,7 %, in transportation and storage by 2,4 %, in construction by 0,7 % and in selected market services by 0,3 %. In information and communication activities it remained unchanged.
