In April 2021, annual inflation, comparing the price level of the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) in April 2021 compared with April 2020 increased to 1.7 %. In March 2021, its value was 1.5 %.

The average HICP annual inflation rate (expressed as the change in the average harmonized index of consumer prices over the last 12 months from the average of the previous 12 months) was 1.5 % in April 2021, it was 2.9 % in April 2020.

Month-on-month HICP inflation reached 0.2 % in April 2021, down from 0.6 % in March 2021. The contributions of the individual divisions of the COICOP classification to month-on-month HICP inflation were as follows: a positive contribution to month-on-month inflation, it means, an overall price increase was recorded in the following divisions: Food and non-alcoholic beverages (contribution 0.12 percentage points due to higher food prices), Furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance (contribution 0.01 pp), Transport (contribution 0.01 pp), Recreation and culture (contribution 0.01 pp), Miscellaneous  goods and services (contribution 0.01 pp). On the contrary, a negative contribution, it means, an overall month-on-month decrease in prices, was recorded in the divisions: Health (contribution -0.01 pp due to lower prices of pharmaceutical products), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (contribution -0.01 pp due to month-on-month decrease in alcohol prices; prices of tobacco products remained at the level of the previous month, when they increased significantly as a result of the increase in excise duty).

Data collection for the consumer price index also had a major impact on the corona crisis situation in April. Traditional field price survey has continued to be replaced by prices from other sources, e.g. websites, telephone and email inquiries and post-imputation. More in methodical note HERE.
