In June compared with the previous month, the confidence indicator in construction increased by 9,5 points to -37,5 due to more favourable evaluations of the expected employment  and the overall level of orders. The current result is below the long-term average by 23 points.

Compared with the situation in the previous month, the indicator of the building activity trend over the past three months deteriorated by 4 points to -31. A decrease of the construction activity was recorded by 38 % of respondents, its increase by 13 % of respondents, and 49 % of enterprises considered it to be unchanged. Compared with May, the evaluation of the current level of overall order books improved by 7 points to -49. 0 % of respondents consider them to be more than sufficient, 46 % of them to be sufficient and for 54 % of respondents the current level of orders was insufficient. 40 % of respondents included insufficient demand, 37 % financial constraints, 20 % shortage of employees, 11 % lack of materials and mechanisms and 7 % weather conditions into the most significant factors limiting a growth of construction production currently. Respondents also report: current situation in Slovakia affected by the coronavirus pandemic and quarantine measures, cancellation of orders and limits on investments by investors. 17 % of enterprises do not see any barriers of growth currently. Expectations of respondents in estimation of the employment development improved month-on-month, the business balance of the expected number of employees, increased by 12 points to -26, mainly due to enterprises performing construction of buildings and civil engineering. Over the next three months, 9 % of respondents expect an increase of employment, 64 % expect a stable development and 27 % of enterprises expect a decrease. Compared with May, the business balance of the expected construction production prices over the next three months decreased by 19 points to -15, mainly due to enterprises performing construction of buildings. 17 % of respondents expect a decrease in the price level of their production, 78 % do not expect changes and 5 % of enterprises assume a price increase.

Note: * In June 2020, 311 respondents participated in the survey representing the entire construction sector. The values of the confidence indicator in construction and the balances range from -100 (responses of all respondents are pessimistic) to 100 (responses of all respondents are optimistic). Data are seasonally adjusted.
