Employment and average monthly wage in selected sectors of economy in September 2021

In September 2021, wages rose the most in internal trade year-on-year.

Employment

In September 2021, compared to September 2020, employment recorded the highest increase in information and communication by 8.1 %. There was also a partial increase in some trade activities, namely in sale and repair of motor vehicles (by 4.3 %), in food and beverage service activities (by 3%) and in accommodation (by 1.7 %). A slight increase was also recorded in selected market services (by 0.4 %). Thus, a growth was recorded in five of the ten monitored sectors.

It decreased in the other five sectors, but not more than 1 %; mostly in transportation and construction (equally by 0.7 %), industry (by 0.5 %) and as for the trade activities, a decrease was recorded in wholesale (by 0.5 %) and in retail trade (by 0.4 %).

On average, in the first nine months of 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, employment increased in information and communication by 3.7 % and it also slightly increased in selected market services by 0.5 %. A decline was recorded in the other eight monitored sectors; the highest one was in accommodation by 12.3 % and food and beverage service activities by 7.5 %, construction by 4.9 %, wholesale by 4.6 %, retail trade by 3.3 %, industry by 2.6 %, transportation and storage by 2 % and in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 1.7 %.

Average monthly wage

In September, the average nominal monthly wage increased in all sectors year-on-year, mostly in accommodation, where it rose by 12.6 % (it reached EUR 873). Double-digit growth was also recorded in wholesale by 12.2 % (EUR 1,202), sales and repair of motor vehicles by 10.1 % (EUR 1,158) and in food and beverage service activities by 11.8 % (EUR 626).

Wages also grew, year-on-year, in retail trade by 9.3 % (EUR 902), in selected market services by 8.4 % (EUR 1,126), in construction by 7.9 % (EUR 836), information and communication by 7.3 % (EUR 2,136), transportation and storage by 5.4 % (EUR 1,093), and industry by 5,1 % (EUR 1,251).

In September 2021, compared to September 2020, the average real monthly wage increased the most in accommodation by 7.6 %. It also increased in wholesale by 7.3 %, food and beverage service activities by 6.9 %, sales and repair of motor vehicles by 5.3 %, retail trade by 4.5 %, selected market services by 3.6 %, construction by 3.2 %, information and communication by 2.6 %, transportation and storage by 0.8 % and in industry by 0.5 %.

On average, in the nine months of 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, wages increased in selected market services by 10 % (it reached EUR 1,127), in accommodation also by 10 % (EUR 773), wholesale by 9.5 % (EUR 1,167), sales and repairs of motor vehicles by 9.3 % (EUR 1,127), food and beverage service activities by 8.8 % (EUR 579), industry by 8.3 % (EUR 1,244), construction by 8 % (EUR 801), retail trade by 7.6 % (EUR 860), information and communication by 6.9 % (EUR 2,132) and in transportation and storage by 6.7 % (EUR 1,076).

The real monthly wage increased, year-on-year, in accommodation and in selected market services equally by 7.4 %, wholesale by 6.9 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles equally by 6.7 %, food and beverage service activities by 6.3 %, industry by 5.8 %, construction by 5.5 %, retail trade by 5.1 %, information and communication by 4.4 % and in transportation and storage by 4.2 %.
