Foreign trade detailed data in February 2021 and in the first two months of 2021

In February compared with the corresponding period last year, the total exports of goods rose by 8,4 % to EUR 7 198,8 million and the total imports by 3,2 % to EUR 6 754,3 million. The foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 444,5 million (by EUR 342,7 million higher than last February).

In January-February 2021, the foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 709,8 million (by EUR 602,5 million higher than in the corresponding period last year).

The Slovak Republic recorded the highest surplus with France (EUR 511,7 million), Germany (EUR 506,2 million), Poland (EUR 494,7 million), Hungary (EUR 388,6 million), Austria (EUR 383,4 million), the USA (EUR 343,9 million), the United Kingdom (EUR 341,4 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 287,1 million), Italy (EUR 265,9 million) and Spain (EUR 209,5 million). The largest deficit was recorded with the Republic of Korea (EUR 690,3 million), Vietnam (EUR 643,4 million), the Russian Federation (EUR 641,4 million), China (EUR 443 million), Malaysia (EUR 104,2 million) and Taiwan (EUR 54,3 million).

Goods in the amount of EUR 13 709,2 million were exported from the Slovak Republic. Compared to the corresponding period of 2020, total exports increased by 3,4 %.

In terms of goods, the highest increase was recorded in export of other motor vehicles principally designed for transport by EUR 432,7 million, parts and accessories of motor vehicles by EUR 84,6 million, motor vehicles for the transport of goods by EUR 82,1 million and monitors, projectors, reception apparatus for television by EUR 80,9 million. The highest decrease was recorded in export of petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals other than crude by EUR 90,7 million and footwear with other outsoles of rubber, plastics and leather by EUR 26,3 million.

As regards the most important trading partners, exports to Germany increased by 8,9 %, the Czech Republic by 4,3 %, Poland by 9,8 %, the USA by 50,6 %, Spain by 6,5 %, China by 90,8 % and Romania by 8,7 %. Export dropped to France by 1,3 %, Hungary by 3,4 %, Austria by 5,7 %, Italy by 1,1 % and the United Kingdom by 34,1 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, exports to EU countries increased by 3,2 % (representing  79,5 % of total exports of the SR) and to the OECD countries by 2 % (representing 87,4 % of total exports of the SR).

Goods in the amount of EUR 12 999,4 million were imported to the Slovak Republic, with a year-on-year decrease of 1,1 %.

In terms of goods, imports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons rose by EUR 128,3 million, parts and accessories of transmission apparatus for radio-telephony, radio and television broadcasting by EUR 64,5 million, electric motors and generators by EUR 53,6 million, automatic data-processing machines and units thereof by EUR 51,4 million, diagnostic or laboratory reagents on a backing by EUR 49,5 million.  Imports decreased more significantly of petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals other than crude by EUR 129,3 million and motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for transport by EUR 66,2 million.

In relation to the most important trading partners, imports from Germany increased by 24 %, the Republic of Korea by 1,1 % and Vietnam by 17,5 %. Imports decreased from the Czech Republic by 12,7 %, the Russian Federation by 0,2 %, China by 2,4 %, Poland by 17,1 %, France by 11,6 %, Hungary by 40,9 %, Italy by 13,7 % and Austria by 26,1 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, compared to the corresponding period of 2020, imports from EU countries decreased by 0,6 % (representing 65,7 % of total imports) and from OECD countries dropped by 6,6 % (representing 63 % of total imports of the SR).
