Employment and average monthly wage in selected sectors of economy in March 2021

The average monthly wage in March increased in all sectors, the opposite was the development of employment, in most sectors it decreased year-on-year, it increased only in information and communication.

Employment

In March 2021 compared with March 2020, employment increased only in information and communication, i.e. by 3,1 %. It dropped the most in accommodation by 19,8 % and a decrease above 10 % was also in food and beverage service activities (13 %).  It decreased in construction by 8 %, wholesale by 5,2 %, retail trade by 4,7 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 4,1 %, transportation and storage by 3,6 %, industry by 3,5 % and in selected market services by 2,4 %.

On average, over first quarter of 2021, compared to the corresponding period in 2020, employment increased only in information and communication by 1,2 %. It decreased in accommodation by 21,8 %, food and beverage service activities by 13,9 %, construction by 9,2 %, wholesale by 6,9 %, industry by 5,2 %, retail trade by 4,8 %, transportation and storage by 4,1 and in sale and repair of motor vehicles equally by 3,9 % and in selected market services by 1,4 %.

Average monthly wage

In March 2021, the average nominal monthly wage increased in all sectors, reaching more than double-digit growth in construction and selected market services, and after a year-on-year decline it also slightly increased in accommodation. The average nominal monthly wage increased in March 2021 compared to March 2020 in construction by 10,8 % (amounted to EUR 789), selected market services by 10,5 % ( EUR 1 143), sale and repair of motor vehicles by 8,7 % (EUR 1 084), wholesale by 8,5 % (EUR 1 174), industry by 7,7 % (EUR 1 233), information and communication activities by 7,2 % (EUR 2 387), transportation and storage by 7,1 % (EUR 1 057), retail trade by 6 % (EUR 824), food and beverage service activities by 3,6 % (EUR 547). After a one-year decline, wages in accommodation also increased, though only slightly by 0,9 % (EUR 710).

In March 2021, the average real monthly wage increased year-on-year in construction by 9,3 %, selected market services by 9 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 7,2 %, wholesale by 7 %, industry by 6,2 %, information and communication by 5,7 %, transportation and storage by 5,6 %, retail trade by 4,5 % and in food and beverage service activities by 2,2 %. It dropped only in accommodation by 0,5 %.

On average, over the first quarter of 2021, compared to the corresponding period of 2020, wages increased in selected market services by 7,4 % (amounted to EUR 1 107), construction by 6,2 % (EUR 768), wholesale by 3,6 % (EUR 1 101), information and communication by 3,5 % (EUR 2 108)), industry by 3,3 % (EUR 1 182), retail trade by 2,4 % (EUR 809), transportation and storage by 1,3 % (EUR 1 029) and in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 0,8 % (EUR 1 054). Compared with the corresponding period last year, it dropped in accommodation by 13,1 % (EUR 669) and in food and beverage service activities by 3,3 % (EUR 532).

The real monthly wage increased year-on-year in selected market services by 6,3 %, in construction by 5,1 %, wholesale by 2,6 %, information and communication by 2,5 %, industry by 2,3 %, retail trade by 1,4 % and in transportation and storage by 0,3 %. It dropped in accommodation by 14 %, in food and beverage service activities by 4,3 % and in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 0,2 %.
