The January´s construction result was mainly driven by the dynamic performance of the Slovak builders abroad
Construction production in January 2025 achieved the best year-on-year result since April 2024. It rose dynamically abroad, only moderately in the SR. New construction, as well as repairs and maintenance, achieved a better result than a year ago. In the structure by type of construction, the construction of roads and other civil engineering projects continued to lag behind year-on-year.
Construction production1 in January 2025 reached EUR 436.1 million, which was more by 7.2% than in January last year2). Construction enterprises thus maintained higher year-on-year performance for the third consecutive month. At the same time, the volume of construction production was also higher in the month-on-month comparison, by 1.5%3).
Both significant components of domestic construction production, new construction4) and repairs and maintenance, both by 1.6%, ended up with a moderate growth. Only the component - other construction works - decreased, by almost a third, but this is only a relatively insignificant component of the domestic production. Domestic construction production represented 86% of the total output of the sector.
Broken down by construction type, the more significant construction of buildings rose by 3% year-on-year, but work on engineering structures, which also includes the highways construction, continued to slow down year-on-year for the 9th consecutive month, currently by 7.4% in January.
The sector's result for January 2025 was positively influenced mainly by the growth of the performance of construction enterprises abroad, this production was higher by more than 80% year-on-year and its share in the total production of the sector increased to 14%.
