The number of visitors to accommodation establishments doubled compared to the last year, the values before the pandemic were almost reached only in Žilinský kraj
Hotels and guesthouses, after being decimated by the pandemic in the two last years, reached the level of 78% of pre-Covid numbers of visitors in the first month of 2023 (compared to January 2020). The highest number of visitors was recorded in wither resorts in Žilinský and Prešovský kraj.
In January 2023, the total number of visitors to tourism accommodation establishments in Slovakia almost doubled year-on-year, i.e. 348,000 guests. The increase was mainly influenced by a low comparable base in January 2022, when the activity of tourism accommodation establishments was limited by strict anti-pandemic measures. Compared to January 2020, when the number of visitors was not yet affected by the pandemic, accommodation providers still recorded lower number of visitors approximately by a quarter (100,000).
Visitors spent 867,000 nights in tourism establishments, the average length of stay was 2.5 nights in January.

Two-thirds of the accommodated were represented by domestic visitors to hotels, guesthouses and other tourism establishments, a total of 224,000 people. In January, the highest number of domestic visitors was recorded in Žilinský, Prešovský and Banskobystrický kraj, which are important regions for tourism and focused on winter tourism in the mountains. Together, these three regions accounted for 70% of the number of domestic visitors and, at the same time, 62% of the total number of visitors.
Accommodation services were also used by 125,000 foreign visitors, twice as many as a year ago. The number of foreign visitors increased year-on-year in all regions. The most dynamic 3.5-fold increase was recorded by Košický kraj, which also exceeded the high numbers of the first month of 2019 and 2020. In January, the most foreigners visited Bratislavský kraj (42 thousand), Žilinský kraj (37 thousand) and Prešovský kraj (19 thousand foreign visitors)
