Inflation in pensioners' households increased to 2.4%
Inflation, the year-on-year price growth in August 2024 in Slovakia, was published by the Statistical Office on September 13. On a regular monthly basis, at a later date, it also publishes detailed structures of the growth rate or price decline for selected social groups.
In August, consumer prices in Slovakia rose by 2.8% year-on-year on average. For households of employees and low-income households, inflation reached a slightly higher value - 2.9%, for households of pensioners, inflation reached a lower value than the SR average of 2.4%. The rate of inflation for three specific social groups has slightly different values, this results from the different structure of the expenses of these households within the consumption basket.
The greatest impact on the final value of inflation for individual social groups compared to the aggregate index was mainly due to the higher rate of growth in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic beverages, but also various types of services within the consumer basket, such as water and sewage, transport services, household maintenance goods and services, veterinary services. On the contrary, we recorded year-on-year lower prices in the health sector, in transportation, especially for cheaper fuels.
In total for the first eight months of 2024, consumer prices within the SR increased by 2.7% year-on-year, in the households of employees it was by 2.8%, in low-income households by 2.6%, in the households of pensioners by 2.1%.
