Turnover in selected sectors of economy in November 2022

Industry still recorded a moderate growth in turnover, selected market services continued to decline

In November, turnover repeated the balance in October and grew in three identical sectors of the economy out of the five monitored year-on-year. Turnover of transportation and storage, as well as information and communication, continued to increase in double-digit numbers. Industry turnover was also maintained in positive numbers. Selected market services, as well as construction, continued to decrease in turnover year-on-year.

In November 2022, industry recorded a year-on-year increase in turnover of 4.1%. Turnover of the most important sector in the structure of the economy grew for the seventh month in a row, but the growth rate slowed down again. Half of the 16 monitored sectors recorded a positive result1).

The overall positive result of turnover in industry was most significantly influenced by a growth in manufacture of metals by 17.8%, in manufacture of transport equipment by 6.1%, in manufacture of electrical equipment by 23.5%, in other manufacture by 13.1%, as well as in manufacture of textile and leather with a growth of 24.5%. On the contrary, turnover of industry were primarily affected by a decrease in turnover of electricity and gas supply by 17.4%, which was the third month in a row.

Turnover of the second strongest sector, selected market services, have been falling for the fifth month in a row and was down by 4.3% year-on-year in November. Administrative and business auxiliary activities affected it most significantly with a decrease of 20.6%. Turnover of activities of head offices also dropped significantly by 12.1%, as well as real estate activities by 9.4%. Year-on-year, turnover grew the most in advertising and market research by 43.7% and activities of travel agencies. It followed a nine-month continuous growth, but after recalculation to constant prices, it was almost half behind the same period in the pre-pandemic year 2019.

Transportation and storage enterprises continued their trend of double-digit year-over-year turnover growth, increasing by 19.9% in November, slightly accelerating the growth rate. All five divisions of this section grew, and the positive result was mainly supported by the two most significant divisions - land transport and transport via pipeline (growth by 26.6%), warehousing and support activities (growth by 9.3%).

The section of information and communication maintains stable double-digit turnover growth for the fourth month in a row, it was higher by 18.1% year-on-year. All divisions of the section recorded a higher value than a year ago, while the most significant share in the overall positive result was recorded by computer programming with a year-on-year increase of 23.6%, as well as telecommunications with an increase of 11.9%.

Turnover in construction followed a decline in October and also decreased year-on-year in November 2022, i.e. by 1.4%.

Development in November 2022 compared to October 2022

After adjusting for seasonal effects, turnover increased month-on-month in all five monitored sectors of the economy. It grew most significantly in transportation and storage by 3.2%. Turnover in industry increased by 2.5% and in information and communication activities by 2.1%. Turnover in selected market services increased even more slightly by 1.2% and in construction by 0.7%.

Development for the first eleven months of 2022

In total, for the first eleven months of 2022, turnover in transportation and storage increased by a quarter year-on-year. Double-digit growth of 15% was also recorded in information and communication activities, industry, as the most significant sector, achieved growth of 7.4%. Turnover of companies in selected market services reached only a slight increase of 0.5% and turnover in construction decreased by 2.4%.

Since 2022, selected market services include business entities that are classified into the divisions 68 to 82 according to the main economic activity of SK NACE. Due to decreasing the burden of the business environment, data are not available on turnover for subjects classified into SK NACE divisions 85 to 96. Turnover therefore do not include information for education (SK NACE division 85), arts, entertainment and recreation, including gaming and betting activities (SK NACE divisions 90 - 93). Also, turnover of enterprises for other activities (SK NACE 95 and 96) to which they belonged among others laundry and dry cleaning, hairdressing and beauty treatment, funeral services, well - being services and other services of predominantly personal nature.
