Construction decreased by 2,7%, year-on-year, both domestic and foreign construction slowed down.
The slowdown in construction in the fourth month of the year was mainly due to lower year-on-year performance in new construction and, in terms of the construction type, due to a 11% decrease in civil engineering, which also includes motorways.
Construction output1) in April 2022 decreased by 2.7% year-on-year and reached a value2) of almost EUR 457 mil. After two months of growth, construction output at constant prices again failed to produce last year´s value.
On a month-on-month basis, seasonally adjusted construction output was lower by 3.7% than in the previous month.
The overall result was mainly influenced by the year-on-year decrease in significant domestic construction works by 2.9%. The lower output is mainly the result of a slowdown by 2.8% in new construction3). It represented about 68% of domestic production. Although repairs and maintenance works increased by almost 5% year-on-year, their growth was not dynamic enough to bring domestic output to positive numbers.
In terms of output specification, the significant works on buildings increased slightly year-on-year (by 1.1%) and civil engineering work, including the construction of motorways, dropped by 11%. The industry's overall result in April 2022 was not supported by works realized abroad, which decreased slightly (by 1.1%).
On average, in the first four months of 2022, construction output reached a volume of EUR 1.6 billion and increased by 0.5% year-on-year. The volume of works on new domestic construction3) decreased by 0.5%, repair and maintenance works increased slightly by 0.7%. In total, works realized abroad had a year-on-year growth by almost 13%.
