Construction production increased again year-on-year in July, new construction and works on engineering constructions prospered
Construction production as a whole progressed more dynamically even during July, it remained in positive numbers thanks to domestic production. It was mainly supported by the started new construction and more intensive works on engineering infrastructure. Building construction and construction work realized abroad continued to lag behind.
In July 2023, the volume of construction production1) reached EUR 612 million and it rose by 3% year-on-year2). After seasonal adjustment, it increased by 2.5% compared to June 2023.
Inland construction companies realized more than 90% of the sector´s total production. The domestic production of builders intensified, remaining in year-on-year growth for the third consecutive month. In July 2023, its value corresponded to 6%. The overall growth of inland construction was influenced by the decisive new construction3) with a year-on-year increase by 9.2%. Relatively smaller components of domestic production did not reach last year´s level, repairs and maintenance decreased year-on-year by 0.6% and other works by 6.2%.

Construction production from construction works for civil engineering (including the construction of roads and motorways) rose for the fourth consecutive month, by nearly 28% in July 2023. Conversely, the dominant building construction, which has been decreasing since March 2023, dropped by as much as 4.7%.
Work realized abroad slowed down year-on-year by almost a fifth, their share in the total construction production did not even reach 10%.
In total, in the first seven months of 2023, construction companies realized production in the volume of almost EUR 3.6 billion, which corresponded to a year-on-year increase by 0.6% at constant prices. The volume of domestic construction work increased by 1.3% compared to July 2022. It was positively influenced by the growing domestic new construction by 5.7%. On the contrary, the declines in its smaller components – repairs and maintenance by 7.4% and other works by 15.5% – had a negative impact.
In the breakdown by production focus, from January to July of this year, the construction production realized on engineering constructions showed a year-on-year increase by 15.1%, but the construction of buildings, which is more important in terms of share, ended up in negative numbers by 4.1%.
The volume of construction work abroad was lower by 6% in the seven months as a whole.
