The growth of the construction industry in February was mainly helped by higher domestic new construction as well as construction works abroad
Construction enterprises maintained their year-on-year higher performance in February, but the growth rate slowed down. Domestic new construction rose as well as repairs and maintenance of buildings. After nine months of declines, work on engineering structures increased year-on-year. At the same time, for the second consecutive month, the sector was significantly helped by dynamically increased work abroad.
Construction production1) in February 2025 reached EUR 501 million and increased by 3.4%2) year-on-year. Construction enterprises thus maintained a higher performance for the fourth consecutive month. Compared to the previous month3), the volume of construction production remained approximately identical.
The positive result of the construction industry was influenced by the moderate growth of both proportionally significant components of domestic production, both new construction4) by 2.7% and repairs and maintenance of buildings by 2.2%. The dampening effect on the construction industry's output was more than a third of the proportionally small component of other construction works. Domestic construction production represented 88% of the total output of the sector.
Broken down by construction type, construction output was supported by a 5% growth in work on engineering structures, which recorded a real production growth after 9 months of decline. However, the more dominant construction of buildings dropped, but only very slightly, by 0.3%.
The sector´s result in February 2025 was also influenced by a significant, up to a quarter, growth in the performance of construction enterprises abroad. Their share in the total production of the sector reached almost 12%.
In total, for the first 2 months of 2025, the value of construction production reached EUR 937 million, which represented a year-on-year increase by 5.1%. The dominant new construction increased by 2.2%, as well as repairs and maintenance by 1.9%. In terms of production focus, the impact of the higher volume of building construction was slightly reduced by the year-on-year lower volume of work on engineering structures. Work carried out abroad recorded a value of work that was up to half higher than in the corresponding period a year ago.
