Turnover in selected sectors of economy in September 2024

Sales in most sectors rose again, but the double-digit decline in construction remained

September´s turnover recorded a growth in 4 out of 5 monthly monitored sectors of the economy, a double-digit growth was recorded only in selected market services. Turnover in industry and transportation and storage also reached slightly positive values, but did not exceed 1%. In  construction, turnover continued decreasing by a tenth.

In the key sector of the economy, industrial enterprises1)2), recorded a slight turnover increase in in September 2024, year-on-year by 0.5% (at constant prices). However, it was only the third increase this year. Among the 16 monitored industrial sectors1), 6 of them recorded higher turnover year-on-year.

September´s turnover in selected market services2) rose by 11.6% year-on-year, growing at a double-digit rate for the third time this year.

After the decrease in August, turnover also increased slightly in transportation and storage enterprises, by 0.3%.

Sales in information and communication activities2) increased by 3.8% year-on-year, the growth rate slightly accelerated.

Turnover2) of construction enterprises also dropped by 10% year-on-year in September 2024, a double-digit decline was recorded for the third time in the current year. Lower turnover have persisted in construction industry for the past thirteen months.

Development in September 2024 compared with August 2024

Turnover in a month-on-month comparison (after seasonal adjustments) increased in 4 out of 5 sectors – in industry by 2%, in transportation and storage enterprises by 0.7%, information and communication activities by 0.5% and in selected market services by 0.3%. Only construction recorded a month-on-month decrease, by 1.3%.

Development in the first nine months of 2024

In total, for the first nine months of 2024, turnover increased year-on-year in selected market services by 7.9%, information and communication activities by 5.1% and in transportation and storage by 1.8%. On the contrary, cumulative turnover dropped by 7.6% in construction and by 3.1% in industry.

Together with the publication of the data for January 2024, the entire time series were recalculated in connection with the adopted adjustment of the methodology. More in the document Change of the base period and the classification according to kind-of-activity units (PDF - 183 kB).

Since 2022, selected market services include business entities that are classified into the divisions 68 to 82 according to the main economic activity of SK NACE. Due to decreasing the burden of the business environment, data are not available on turnover for subjects classified into SK NACE divisions 85 to 96. Turnover therefore do not include information for education (SK NACE division 85), arts, entertainment and recreation, including gaming and betting activities (SK NACE divisions 90 - 93). Also, turnover of enterprises for other activities (SK NACE 95 and 96) to which they belonged among others laundry and dry cleaning, hairdressing and beauty treatment, funeral services, well - being services and other services of predominantly personal nature.
