Construction decreased by 3.2% year-on-year in November, it was mainly slowed by a double-digit decline in work abroad
In November 2022, the performance of construction decreased year-on-year for the second month in a row. It was mostly affected by a decline in non-domestic output, the highest so far in 2022. Domestic output also was in negative numbers, due to a fall in other construction works.
Construction output1) decreased year-on-year by 3.2%2) and reached a value3) of almost 680 million in November. November was thus the seventh month in 2022, when construction output at constant prices failed to produce the same value than a year ago.
On a month-to-month basis, after taking seasonal effects into account, construction output was by 2% lower than the previous month.
Output carried out by domestic companies (its share in total production was almost 92%) decreased by 0.2% compared to November 2021. The two most significant items were in positive numbers year-on-year, new construction4) rose by 2.2%, repairs and maintenance by 1.3%. Despite this, they were unable to increase domestic output, and its decline was influenced by a significant drop in the smallest item of construction output, other construction work, by almost a half (other construction work includes work for geological exploration, soil clearing, or demolition in places where construction will not be continued).

From the point of view of the production specification, works on buildings decreased by 5.1% year-on-year, their share in domestic output represented almost 63%. Work on engineering constructions, which also includes the construction of highways, increased by 9.2% year-on-year.
The overall result of the sector was mainly influenced by work abroad, which recorded the most significant decrease in 2022 by almost 27% in November.
In total, for the first eleven months of 2022, construction output reached the volume of almost EUR 5.7 billion and compared to the same period of 2021 it decreased by 0.4%. Domestic new construction increased by 0.6% year-on-year, repairs and maintenance remained at the level of the last year.
