Even in September, construction output progressed faster than inflation, the sector was in slightly positive numbers for the third month

Construction output in September 2022 rose year-on-year for the third consecutive month, the positive numbers were mainly the result of the growth of domestic new construction, renewals and enhancements, and the double-digit growth of non-domestic production.

The volume of construction works1) in September 2022 reached almost EUR 630 million, construction output2) increased by 2.7% year-on-year and it was in positive numbers for the third consecutive month. At current prices, it was the highest monthly volume in the last five years.

Month-on-month, after seasonal adjustment, construction was lower by 1% compared to the previous month.

The decisive component with a 88% share in terms of construction performance was domestic output, which increased slightly year-on-year. The positive result was mainly supported by the year-on-year increase in works in the decisive new construction3) by 3.7%. Repairs and maintenance decreased by 4.4% year-on-year, but they only represent a smaller share of domestic output - a quarter.

In terms of the production focus, the work in construction of buildings also increased year-on-year (by 2.2%), and slightly also the works on engineering constructions, which also include the construction of highways. Works abroad also contributed to the overall positive result of the industry with a year-on-year increase of approximately by 12%.

In total, for the three quarters of 2022, construction output reached a volume of almost EUR 4.4 billion which in constant prices (after taking into account inflation) was slightly more than in the corresponding period of 2021. The result is a consequence of a year-on-year better performance of new domestic construction3) and works abroad.
