In July, the confidence indicator in industry decreased by 12 p.p. (percentage points- p.p.) to the value -12,3. The development of the indicator was the most significantly influenced by the expected decrease of the production over the next three months.

Compared with the previous month, the industrial production trend decreased by 14 p.p. to -18. A decrease was recorded mainly in manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products, wood and paper products and other non-metallic products. An increase was recorded mainly in other manufacture, repair and installation and in manufacture of transport equipment. Compared to June, the business balance of the aggregate orders increased (by 1 p.p. to -17). A more significant increase of orders was recorded mainly in manufacture of pharmaceutical products, machinery and equipment n.e.c. and textiles and apparel. On the contrary, a decrease of orders was registered mainly in manufacture of wood and paper products, basic metal and fabricated metal products and electrical equipment. 79 % of respondents consider the current level of orders to be sufficient. The balance of foreign orders increased by 8 p.p. to -20. The level of orders increased mainly in manufacture of food, machinery and equipment n.e.c. and textiles and apparel. On the contrary, there was a decrease in manufacture of wood and paper products, basic metal and fabricated metal products and electrical equipment. 77 % of exporting respondents consider the level of foreign orders to be sufficient. In July compared with June, the balance of the finished goods stock decreased by 5 p.p. to -1. A decrease of the goods stock was indicated mainly in manufacture of textiles, apparel, basic metal and fabricated metal products and in other manufacture, repair and installations. The stock increased particularly in manufacture of electrical equipment and food. 97 % of respondents consider the total stock to be sufficient. In July compared with June, the balance of the expected production over the next three months, decreased by 44 p.p. to -21. The most pessimistic were the respondents in manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products, machinery and equipment n.e.c. and wood and paper products, by regions, mainly in Žilina and Trnava. An increase of the production is assumed mainly in manufacture of textiles, apparel, in the chemical industry and in manufacture of electrical equipment, by regions only in Prešov and Banská Bystrica. Over the next three months period, the balance of the expected development of industrial products prices, decreased by 4 p.p. to -8, compared with June. A price decrease is expected in the majority of groups, mainly in manufacture of wood and paper products, textiles and apparel and in the chemical industry. In neither groups was considered a price increase by respondents. Over the next three months, the majority of enterprises (89 %) do not expect any changes in the price level of their own products. Compared with the previous month, the employment development slightly improved when the balance increased by 1 p.p. to -26. A higher number of employees is assumed mainly in manufacture of textiles and apparel and electrical equipment, by size groups in enterprises employing 250 to 499 people and by regions in Košice and Žilina. On the contrary, a lower number of employees is expected mainly in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products and food and beverages, by regions, in Nitra and Trenčín.

When evaluating the factors limiting the increase of industrial production, 38 % of respondents reported insufficient demand and 26 % shortage of employees. 28 % of respondents do not feel any barriers of growth. The production capacity increased by 12 p.p. to 10. The majority of respondents (91 %) consider the current production capacity to be sufficient. Based on orders, enterprises have reserved work for 6 months on average while production is ensured mostly in manufacture of electrical equipment and textiles and apparel. Industrial companies used production capacities to 88 % on average. Over the next three months, a decrease in the development of orders is expected by respondents, the overall balance decreased by 18 points compared with the previous period.  The most significant drop is expected in manufacture of other non-metallic products and wood and paper products. An increase of orders is expected in manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products and in other manufacture, repair and installations. Compared with the previous quarter, the balance of the expected export decreased by 26 points while a decrease of the export is expected mainly in manufacture of other non-metallic products and machinery and equipment n.e.c. Based on the survey results, the position of enterprises in domestic competitive environment deteriorated compared with the previous quarter, when the balance decreased by 15 points to -2. On foreign markets inside the EU, the balance increased by 22 p.p. to 13, representing the highest level since the third quarter 2017. On markets outside the EU, the balance increased by 22 points to 14.
