Foreign trade detailed data in May 2021 and in the first five months of 2021

In May, compared with the corresponding period last year, total exports of goods increased by 51,1 % to EUR 6 978 million and total imports increased by 56,3 % to EUR 6 820,5 million. The balance of foreign trade was in surplus in the amount of EUR 157,6 million (by EUR 94,8 million higher than in last May).

The foreign trade balance for January-May 2021 was in surplus in the amount of EUR 1 750,7 million.

The Slovak Republic had the highest surplus with Germany (EUR 1 381,4 million), France (EUR 1 236 million), Poland (EUR 1 158,5 million), Hungary (EUR 1 064,7 million), Austria (EUR 992,6 million), the United Kingdom (EUR 919,3 million), United States (EUR 867,6 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 724,4 million), Italy (EUR 564,9 million) and Spain (EUR 373 million). The largest deficit was with the Republic of Korea (EUR 1 846,9 million), Vietnam (EUR 1 585,2 million), the Russian Federation (EUR 1 374,8 million), China (EUR 1 223,7 million), Malaysia (EUR 311,5 million) and Taiwan (EUR 148,5 million).

Goods in the amount of EUR 36 530,6 million were exported from the Slovak Republic.

Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, exports increased by 32,5 %.

In terms of goods, the export of motor vehicles and other motor vehicles designed principally for transport increased by EUR 3 849,6 million, parts, components and accessories of motor vehicles by EUR 802,2 million, monitors, projectors, reception apparatus for television  by EUR 490,3 million, flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, hot-rolled by EUR 269,4 million,  motor vehicles for the transport of goods by EUR 212,6 million, and telephone sets by EUR 169,8 million. Exports of electrical energy by EUR 37,2 million and railway or tramway goods vans and wagons, not self- propelled by EUR 28,4 million decreased the most.

Within the most important trading partners, exports to Germany increased by 37,1 %, the Czech Republic by 28,7 %, Poland by 33,5 %, France by 46,7 %, Hungary by 22,2 %, Austria by 13,7 %, Italy by 40,9 %, the United Kingdom by 10,5 %, the United States by 73,8 %, China by 160,1 %, Spain by 38,2 % and Romania by 32,4 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, exports to both the EU countries and the OECD countries rose by 31,2 %. While export to OECD countries represented 87,4 % and to the EU countries 79,3 %.

Goods worth EUR 34 779,9 million were imported to the Slovak Republic, with a year-on-year growth by 24,6 %.

In terms of goods, imports of parts and accessories of motor vehicles increased by EUR 1 435,5 million, wires and cables by EUR 343,6 million, electric accumulators, including their separators by EUR 314  million, oil gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons by EUR 240,3 million, iron ores and concentrates, including roasted iron pyrites by EUR 186,7 and electric motors and generators by EUR 185,6 million.  Imports of machinery for making fiber of finishing the paper or paperboard by EUR 54,8 million and electrical energy by EUR 52,1 million.

In relation to the most important trading partners, imports from Germany increased by 58,4 %, the Czech Republic by 14,6 %, China by 18,9 %, the Korean Republic by 19,5 %, the Russian Federation by 24,1 %, Poland by 14 %, Vietnam by 14,9 % and France by 25,1 %. The import form Hungary dropped by 16,5 %.

In terms of main economic groupings, compared to the corresponding period of 2020, imports from EU countries increased by 26,9 % (accounting for 66 % of total imports) and from OECD countries increased by 23,4 % (accounting for 65,4 % of total imports from the Slovak Republic).
