In the 4th quarter, the average nominal monthly wage of an employee in economy of the SR (including estimation on employees employed by tradesmen) amounted to EUR 875. Compared with the 4th quarter of 2011, its growth rate speeded up by 2,7 p.p. to 3,2 %. Compared with the 3rd quarter of 2012, the seasonally adjusted nominal wage increased by 0,8 %. The year-on-year decrease of real wage continued due to the growth of consumer prices. Compared with the 4rd quarter of 2011, it moderated by 3,5 p.p. to 0,3 %. Since the real wage last increased in the 4th quarter of 2010, thereby the decline of real wage persisted for two years.

The highest average nominal monthly wage of employees was in financial and insurance activities (EUR 1 814), in information and communication (EUR 1 807), in electricity and gas supply (EUR 1 594). The wage was lower than the average in economy of the SR in nine surveyed sectors. The lowest wage was in accommodation and food service activities (EUR 553), other service activities (EUR 644), construction (EUR 653) and in agriculture (EUR 656).

Compared with the 4 quarter of 2011, the average nominal monthly wage increased in the majority of sectors. The highest relative wage growth was recorded in financial a and insurance activities by 23,6 %, in electricity and gas supply by 11,4 %, human health and social work activities by 7,6 %. The wage decreased the most in real estate activities by 15,3 % and in administrative services by 7,5 %.

The average nominal monthly wage increased in enterprises employing 20 people or more by 8 % to EUR 1 029, budgetary organizations by 3,7 % to EUR 888 and in allowance organizations by 1,6 % to EUR 803. In smaller enterprises employing 19 people or fewer, the wage decreased by 4,3 % to EUR 698.

From the regional aspect, the highest average nominal monthly wage was in Bratislavský kraj (EUR 1 106). In the rest of the regions was between EUR 694 (Prešovský kraj) and EUR 820 (Žilinský kraj). The average nominal monthly wage was higher than in the 4th quarter of 2011 almost in all regions. The fastest pace of its growth was recorded in Žilinský kraj (by 4,9 %). It decreased only in Trnavský kraj by 0,4 %.

In 2012, the average nominal monthly wage of an employee in economy amounted to EUR 805. It increased by 2,4 % year-on-year, the real wage decreased by 1,2 %. Nominal wage growth was by 0,2 p.p. faster than in 2011.
