Turnover in selected sectors of economy in December 2019

Development in December 2019 in comparison with November 2019 1)

Turnover month-on-month increased in selected market services by 2,3 %, information and communication by 2 % and in construction by 0,1 %. It decreased in transportation and storage by 3 %. It remained unchanged in industry.

Development in December 2019 compared with December 2018

A decrease in turnover in industry, which began in June 2019, continued in last month of 2019. Compared with December 2018 it decreased by 7,8 %. The development by the SK NACE sections was affected by a decrease in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 18,7 %, manufacturing by 5,9 % and by a rise in mining and quarrying by 2 % and in water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 1,8 %. 

In terms of particular groupings of industrial sectors, which contributed at most to the total turnover decrease, the most significant drop was recorded in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 18,7 %, manufacture of transport equipment by 7,2 %, manufacture of metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 11 %, manufacture of wood and paper products, printing by 13,6 % and manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. by 9,3 %. Turnover rose in manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco products by 8,2 %, manufacture of electrical equipment by 6,9 %, other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 5,9 %, in water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 1,8 % and in mining and quarrying by 2 %.

Turnover in construction decreased the third consecutive month, compared to December 2018 it dropped by 0,8 %.

Turnover in transportation and storage 2) year-on-year decreased  the second time in 2019, compared to December 2018 it was down by 1,4 %. It almost decreased in all activities, the total drop was affected at most by lower turnover in land transport and transport via pipelines by 3,9 % and in warehousing and support activities in transportation by 2,1 %, year-on-year. Turnover rose only in postal and courier activities.

In December 2019, turnover in information and communication 3) recorded the most rapid year-on-year increase over the last eight years (since October 2011). Compared with December 2018 it rose by 20,5 % mostly as a result of an increase in computer programming by 36,6 % (the highest growth since November 2015) and in telecommunications by 22,6 %. It decreased in three activities, most considerably in motion picture, video and television programme production.

Turnover in selected market services 4) year-on-year increased by 3,7 %, at most in administrative, office support and other business support activities by 21,9 %, in real estate activities by 14,2 % and in architectural and engineering activities by 9,3 %. It mostly decreased in legal and accounting activities.

Development in 2019 in comparison with 2018

In 2019, turnover in industry  year-on-year decreased by 0,9 %. The development by the sections of SK NACE Rev. 2 was affected by a fall in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 11,2 %, mining and quarrying by 3,7 % and by a rise in water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 9,1 % and in manufacturing by 0,4 %. In terms of particular groupings of industrial sectors, turnover mostly decreased in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 11,2 %, manufacture of metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 4,3 %, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 8,4 %, manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. by 3,6 % and in manufacture of wood and paper products, printing by 4 %. Turnover year-on-year increased in manufacture of transport equipment by 4,7 %, manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco products by 5,1 %, other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 6,3 %, water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 9,1 % and in manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 0,6 %.

Turnover in construction enterprises remained unchanged at the level of 2018.

Turnover in transportation and storage year-on-year increased by 3 %. It mostly rose in warehousing and support activities in transportation by 6,3 % and in postal and courier activities by 15,5 %. It decreased only in land transport and transport via pipelines.

Total turnover in information and communication increased by 9,8 %. It mainly rose in computer programming by 14,9 % and in  telecommunication by 7,4 %. Turnover year-on-year decreased only in motion picture, video and television programme production.

In selected market services, turnover year-on-year increased by 5,9 %. It rose in all activities, most significantly in administrative, office support and other business support activities by 15,1 %, real estate activities by 9,2 % and in other service activities by 11,3 %.
