Although November was the most favourable in terms of figures since the pandemic, it was still not as successful as the record year 2019, the number of visitors to hotels and guesthouses lagged behind by a fifth

The number of visitors to accommodation establishments in Slovakia in November was the highest in the last four years and comparable to 2018. Compared to 2019, however, its values are still lower by a fifth. Only Žilinský kraj managed to approach the pre-pandemic numbers, mainly with a more significant return of foreigners.

388 000 guests visited tourist accommodation establishments in Slovakia in November of this year. It is the best November´s visit rate since the pandemic period, exceeding last year's figures by 9%. However, compared to the touristically successful year 2019, the hotels and guesthouses lacked almost 20% of guests which in absolute numbers represents more than 90 000 visitors.

In the structure of the accommodated guests, the domestic visitors made up a significant share of more than two-thirds. Their total number increased by 10% year-on-year and reached 264 thousand accommodated. Compared to last year, the number of foreign guests increased by less than 7%, and 123 000 foreigners used accommodation establishments in Slovakia. Compared to the November´s values of the record year 2019, the number of visitors in both categories recorded a decrease by approximately one-fifth.

The number of nights that guests spent in hotels and guesthouses increased by more than 6% compared to last year and reached 936 000. The average length of stay was 2.4 nights.

From a regional perspective, compared to 2019, all regions recorded a decrease in the number of domestic and foreign visitors. Only Žilinský kraj approached the pre-pandemic values, despite this, approximately a tenth of the guests reached the favourable numbers of a successful year. In absolute numbers, the most foreigners visited Bratislavský kraj (59 000), Žilinský kraj (19 000) and Trnavský kraj (11 000 foreign visitors). Together, these three regions represented almost three quarters of the total number of foreign visitors.

In total for the first eleven months of 2023, almost 5.4 million guests were accommodated in tourism establishments. In a year-on-year comparison, this is an increase by almost a fifth, about a tenth of the total visit rate lacked the 2019´s values. During the eleven months, the number of foreign guests accommodated in Slovakia was higher by 32% than last year, and the number of domestic tourists increased by 13%.
