Construction work started fully in April, new construction in inland and work abroad speeded up
In April, construction production recorded a revival for the first time this year, growing year-on-year by 9%. This was affected by a re-start of new construction in inland, and also an increase in repair and mainte-nance. In terms of orientation of production, construction of buildings and civil engineering grew. Work abroad also rose at a fast pace, up to a quarter.
The volume of construction work1) reached almost EUR 583 million and increased year-on-year by 9%2,3). Construction thus began to grow again after four months of year-on-year slumps, for the first time this year. After taking seasonal effects into account, construction production increased month-on-month by 7.8%.
Production in inland was affected by a significant revival of construction work in a decisive component of the sector – in new construction4), but also repairs and maintenance. The year-on-year growth of both of these components exceeded 8%. The smallest component - other work, which in comparison with last year, lagged behind by almost a fifth - had a slight dampening effect on the overall result of the sector. Construction production in inland accounted for more than 88% of the total performance of the construction.

In terms of orientation of production, construction of buildings speeded up year-on-year by 8.1%, which was the highest in the last 14 months. Civil engineering, which includes construction of high-ways, also increased by 5.6%.
Production of construction enterprises abroad also progressed dynamically, compared to last year's April, it was higher by almost a quarter. Its share in total production was almost 12%.
In total, for the four months of 2024, construction production amounted to EUR 1.9 billion and decreased year-on-year by 2.7%. The dominant new construction in inland decreased by 4% and other work also fell by 7.1%. On the contrary, repairs and maintenance increased slightly by 1.2%.
In terms of orientation of production, as for construction production, construction of buildings recorded a decrease of 2.6% and civil engineering declined by 5.3%.
In the total, for the first four months, the volume of construction work abroad was by 2% lower year-on-year.
