Foreign trade development in October 2021 and in the first ten months of 2021

In October 2021, total exports of goods amounted to EUR 7,8 billion, with a year-on-year drop by 2,3 %. Total imports of goods increased by 4,9 % to EUR 7,5 billion. The foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 290,9 million (by EUR 530,3 lower than in the corresponding period last year).

In January and October 2021, compared to the corresponding period last year, total exports of goods increased by 16,5 % to EUR 72,1 billion and total imports by 19,1 % to EUR 70,2 billion. The balance of foreign trade was in surplus in the amount of EUR 1,9 billion (by EUR 1 billion lower than in the corresponding period last year).

In January to October 2021, compared to the corresponding period last year, exports to the EU Member States increased by 17,7 % and accounted for 79,8 % of total exports. Imports from the EU Member States represented 65,1 % of total imports and increased by 16,5 % year-on-year.

Exports to the non-EU countries in January to October 2021 increased by 12,3 % compared to the corresponding period last year and accounted for 20,2 % of total exports. Imports from non-EU countries accounted for 34,9 % of total imports and increased by 24,3 % year-on-year.

The most traded SITC class in the foreign trade of the Slovak Republic was machinery and transport equipment with a share of 61,3 % in total exports and 47,9 % in total imports.

In October 2021, after seasonal adjustment, total exports of goods amounted to the value of EUR 7,2 billion, with a year-on-year decrease by 0,3 %. Total imports of goods increased by 8 % to EUR 7,1 billion. The foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 95,9 million (by EUR 545,6 million lower than in October 2020).
