In August compared with July, consumer prices increased by 0,2 % in total.  Prices rose in the divisions of transport by 1,6 %; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; miscellaneous goods and services equally by 0,3 %; restaurants and hotels by 0,2 %;  food and non-alcoholic beverages; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furniture and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; health; education equally by 0,1 %. Prices of clothing and footwear dropped by 0,7 %; recreation and culture by 0,1 %. Prices of communications remained at the level of July.

In the food division, prices of sugar, jam, honey, syrups, chocolates and confectionary increased by 1,3 %; fish by 1 %; meat by 0,5 %; bread and cereals; food products n.e.c. equally by 0,2 %; milk, cheese and eggs; oils and fats equally by 0,1 %. Prices of vegetables (including potatoes) decreased by 3 %; fruit by 0,4 %. Prices of non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0,7 % (prices of mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices rose by 1,7 %, prices of coffee, tea and cocoa decreased by 0,5 %).

Higher prices of meat were caused by rise in prices of sausages by 1 %, beef meat by 0,3 %. Prices of poultry decreased by 0,6 %. Prices of pork meat remained unchanged. Lower prices of vegetables were affected by price fall of pepper by 23,7 %, onion by 15,4 %, parsley by 13,8 %, carrot by 9,5 %, potatoes by 7 %. Prices of cauliflower rose by 10,8 %, salad cucumbers by 10,6 %, white cabbage by 8,6 %, tomatoes by 6 %, celery by 2,2 %. Prices of garlic remained unchanged. Price decrease of fruit was affected by lower prices of table grapes by 28,4 %, red watermelons by 21,9 %, bananas by 1,7 %. Prices of tangerines rose by 10,2 %, oranges by 10,1 %, kiwi by 8,3 %, apples by 6,1 %, lemons by 5,1 %.

Higher prices in the division of alcoholic beverages and tobacco were affected by rise in prices of alcoholic beverages by 0,6 % (spirits by 0,9 %, wine by 0,8 %, prices of beer remained unchanged). Prices of tobacco remained unchanged.

Lower prices in the division of clothing and footwear were affected by drop in prices of footwear by 1,4 %; clothing by 0,3 %.

Higher prices in the division of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels were affected by increase in prices of services related to maintenance and repair of the dwelling; other services relating to the dwelling equally by 0,5 %; sewage collection by 0,3 %; solid fuels by 0,2 %; materials for maintenance and repair of the dwelling; water supply equally by 0,1 %. Prices of actual rentals paid by tenants; imputed rentals of owner-occupiers; refuse collection; electricity; gas; heat energy remained at the last month´s level.

Higher prices in the division of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance were affected by rise in prices of furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings by 0,3 %; household appliances; glassware, tableware and household utensils; goods and services for routine household maintenance equally by 0,1 %. Prices of household textiles decreased by 0,4 %; tools and equipment for house and garden by 0,1 %.

Higher prices in the health division were influenced by growing prices of medical products, medical appliances and equipment by 0,2 % (other medical products, therapeutic appliances and equipment by 0,3 %, pharmaceutical products by 0,2 %). Prices of outpatient services (prices of medical services, dental services remained unchanged, prices of middle medical staff services – thermal bath rose by 0,2 %); hospital services remained unchanged.

Price rise in transport was caused by higher prices in transport services by 7,1 % (passenger transport by air by 34,8 %, passenger transport by road by 4,8 %, prices of other purchase transport services remained unchanged). Prices of operation of personal transport equipment dropped by 1,2 % (prices of fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment decreased by 1,6 %, spare parts and accessories by 0,1 %, prices of other services relating to passenger transport equipment increased by 0,5 %, maintenance and repair by 0,2 %). Prices of purchase of transport equipment were at the level of the previous month (prices of bikes dropped by 0,3 %).

In the division of communication, prices of postal, telephone services remained unchanged. Prices of telephone equipment rose by 0,1 %.

Lower prices in the division of recreation and culture were affected by drop in prices of newspapers, books and stationary by 0,5 %; audio visual and photographic technology by 0,4 %; other recreational items and equipment for gardens and pets by 0,2 %. Prices of package holidays increased by 0,6 %; other major durable goods for recreation and culture – musical instruments by 0,1 %. Prices of recreational services and culture remained unchanged.

Higher prices in the education division were affected by growing prices of pre-primary and primary education by 0,2 % (fee in kindergarten by 0,3 %). Prices of secondary; tertiary education; education definable by the level were at the level of July.

Higher prices in the division of restaurants and hotels were influenced by higher in catering services by 0,3 % (payments for meals in canteens for pensioners by 0,5 %), in restaurants, cafés by 0,3 %, in canteens by 0,2 %); accommodation services by 0,2 %.


Price growth in the division of miscellaneous goods and services was influenced by higher prices of social protection (payment in social service facilities by 0,6 %, payment in private day nursery, payment in day care facilities equally by 0,2 %, payment for nursing services by 0,1 %); personal care by 0,4 %; financial services n.e.c.; other services n.e.c. equally by 0,1 %. Prices of personal effects n.e.c. decreased by 0,1 %. Prices of insurance remained unchanged (prices of insurance related to health rose by 0,6 %).

In August 2019 compared with August 2018, consumer prices increased by 2,8 % in total. Prices increased in the divisions of food and non-alcoholic beverages by 5,2 %; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 3,8 %; restaurants and hotels by 3,7 %; miscellaneous goods and service by 3,5 %; alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 2,8 %; communications by 2,3 %; recreation and culture by 1,8 %; clothing and footwear by 1,7 %; furniture and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; education equally by 1,5 %; health by 0,9 %. Prices decreased in transport by 1,9 %.

On average, over the first eight months of 2019 compared with the same period of 2018, consumer prices increased by 2,6 % in total.

In August compared with July, index of consumer prices increased in households of employees and in low-income households equally by 0,2 %,  in households of pensioners by 0,1%.

In August 2019, index of consumer prices increased, year-on-year, in households of employees by 2,8 %, households of pensioners by 3,3 % and in low-income households by 3 %.

On average, over the first eight months of 2019 compared with the same period of 2018, index of consumer prices increased in households of employees by 2,5 %, in household of pensioners by 3 % and in low-income households by 2,7 %.
