Foreign trade detailed data in February 2020 and in the first two months of 2020

In February, compared with the corresponding period last year, the total export of goods decreased by 0,6 % to EUR 6 636,8 million and the total import rose by 2,2 % to EUR 6 534,3 million. The foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 102,4 million (by EUR 179,1 million lower than in February last year).

The foreign trade balance in January-February 2020 was in surplus in the amount of EUR 108,8 million (by EUR 324,2 million lower than in the corresponding period last year).

The Slovak Republic had the highest positive balance with Germany (EUR 909 million), the United Kingdom (EUR 569,1 million), France (EUR 496,9 million),  Austria (EUR 327,8 million),  Poland (EUR 309 million), Italy (EUR 257,8 million), Spain (EUR 173 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 156,7 million) and USA (EUR 144,8 million). The highest deficit was recorded with the Russian Federation (EUR 634,8 million), the Republic of Korea (EUR 634,6 million), China (EUR 628,8 million), Vietnam (EUR 543,9 million), Malaysia (EUR 72,7 million), Taiwan (EUR 64,8 million) and Japan (EUR 58,8 million).

Goods in the amount of EUR 13 238,6 million were exported from the Slovak Republic. Compared with corresponding period of 2019, the total export decreased by 1,3 %.

In terms of goods, an increase was recorded in export of motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for transport of persons by EUR 129,2 million, parts and accessories of the motor vehicles by EUR 30,3 million  and other lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery (for example: lifts, escalators, conveyors, teleferics) by EUR 28,9 million. A most considerable decrease was recorded in export of flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, hot rolled by EUR 80,2 million, monitors and projectors, reception apparatus for television by EUR 44,2 million and new rubber tires by EUR 31,1 million

Within the most significant trade partners, export increased to Poland by 2,2 %, France by 22,5 %, Hungary by 2 %, United Kingdom by 13,8 % and Spain by 2,2 %. Export decreased to Germany by 1,9 %, the Czech Republic by 5,9 %, Austria by 7,6 %, Italy by 6,9 %, Romania by 2 %, USA by 47,5 % and the Netherlands by 1,5 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, export to the EU countries increased by 0,3 % (it represented 79,5 % of the total export of the SR) and it decreased to the OECD countries by 1,4 % (it represented 88,5 % of the total export of the SR).  

Goods in the amount of EUR 13 129,8 million were imported to the Slovak Republic with a year-on-year increase of 1,2 %.

In terms of goods, a growth was registered in import of parts and accessories of the motor vehicles by EUR 171 million,  electric accumulators, including separators by EUR 151,4 million, monitors and projectors, television reception apparatus by EUR 37,6 million and  air or vacuum pumps, air or other gas compressors and fans by EUR 29,9 million.

A significant decline was recorded in import of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons by EUR 117,9 million, wires and cables by EUR 56,9 million and  coal and similar solid fuels manufactured from it by EUR 35 million.

In relation to the most significant trade partners, import increased from China by 5,7 %, Hungary by 4,7 %, France by 25,4 % and the United Kingdom by 31,7 %. Import decreased from Germany by 4,4 %, the Czech Republic by 9,5 %, the Russian Federation by 13,6 %, Poland by 1,7 %, the Republic of Korea by 3,8 %, Vietnam by 9,4 %, Austria by 4,5 % and Italy by 11,9 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, import from the EU countries increased by 3,8 % (it represented 66,1 % of the total import of the SR) and it decreased from the OECD countries by 3,3 % (it represented 62,6 % of the total import of the SR), compared with the corresponding period of 2019.

Information was processed by the Statistical Office of the SR on the basis of data from the Customs Section of the Financial Directorate of the SR obtained within the customs clearance and INTRASTAT-SK declarations, which are provided by consignee and consignor of goods.
EU data are without the United Kingdom since January 2020.
