In the fourth quarter, the economy of the SR with GDP growth of 1.4%, while the level of development was significantly affected by a sharp in-crease in prices
In the fourth quarter of 2021, gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.4%, year-on-year, at constant prices1). After adjusting for seasonal effects, GDP increased by 1.1%, year-on-year, and compared to the third quarter of 2021, it rose by 0.3%.2) 3)
In the fourth quarter of 2021,GDP was generated in the value of EUR 25,595.5 million at current prices, which represents an increase of 5.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.
Despite the ongoing pandemic period, the Slovak economy recorded a year-on-year growth, supported mainly by domestic demand. The year-on-year economic development thus moved GDP values even closer to the level in the pre-crisis period of 2019 than in the previous quarter. At the same time, we can state that the growth of the Slovak economy was significantly affected by a sharp rise in prices at the end of the year. In this quarter, the positive development of value added was mainly affected by manufacture of machinery and equipment, land transport and transport via pipelines, and warehousing and support activities for transportation.
In the reference period, the total employment reached 2,409.5 thousand persons. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, it increased by 0.3%. After adjusting for seasonal effects, the total employment increased by 0.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020 and by 0.1% compared to the third quarter of 2021.
