Average monthly wage of employee in economy of the SR in the 1st quarter of 2021

The average nominal monthly wage maintained a growth also in the first quarter, but this does not apply to all the sectors of the economy

The average nominal monthly wage increased by EUR 38 year-on-year. In total, wages decreased year-on-year in six of the 19 monitored sectors of the economy.

The average nominal monthly wage of an employee in the economy of the SR reached EUR 1 124 in the 1st quarter of 2021, it was by 3,5 % higher year-on-year. Thus its growth dynamics slowed down, in the first quarter of 2020, the growth reached up to 6,2 %.

After taking into account the real inflation rate, the wage rose by 2,5 % in the 1st quarter of 2021. The seasonally adjusted average wage rose by 0,2 %, compared to the previous period (4 th quarter of 2020).

It still applied that in terms of wage growth and the dynamics of change, the situation differed significantly in individual sectors of the economy. Out of a total of 19 monitored sectors of economy, up to 13 recorded a year-on-year increase in the average wage, but 6 sectors showed a year-on-year drop in wages. Wages increased relatively fastest in health care and social work (by 14,5 %) and in real estate activities (by 10,4 %). Higher wage growth than the national average was also recorded in construction, industrial production, water supply, as well as in information and communication. On the contrary, the largest decrease was in electricity and gas supply (by 4,3 %) and in accommodation and food service activities (by 3,2 %).

The average nominal monthly wage rose in all regions, with the highest relative increase by 6 % in Košický kraj and 4 % in Trenčiansky. It was higher than the average for the whole economy of the SR only in Bratislavský kraj (EUR 1 432). Of the regions outside the capital, the highest average wage in the first quarter of 2021, was in Trenčiansky kraj (EUR 1 047), and wages were above the level of EUR 1 000 also in Trenčiansky and Košický kraj. The wage has long been the lowest in Prešovský kraj  (EUR 866).
