Development of consumer prices in May 2019

In May compared with April, consumer prices increased by 0,3 % in total.  Prices rose in the divisions of food and non-alcoholic beverages; clothing and footwear equally by 0,8 %; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; restaurants and hotels equally by 0,7 %; transport by 0,6 %; furniture and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance; miscellaneous goods and services equally by 0,2 %; communications by 0,1 %. Prices of health dropped by 0,2 %; recreation and culture by 0,1 %. Prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; education were at the level of the previous month.

Increase of food prices by 0,9 % was affected by higher prices of meat by 2,3 %, sugar, jam, honey, syrups, chocolates and confectionary by 1,8 %, food products n.e.c. by 1,5 %; fish; fruit equally by 1 %; milk, cheese and eggs by 0,7 %; vegetables (including potatoes) by 0,2 %; bread and cereals by 0,1 %. Prices of oils and fats dropped by 1,7 %. Prices of non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 0,5 % (coffee, tea and cocoa by 1,3 %, prices of mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices remained unchanged).

Higher prices of meat were caused by rise in prices of pork meat by 5,9 %, sausages by 1,6 %, poultry by 1,4 %, beef meat by 0,9 %. Price increase of fruit was affected by higher prices of lemons by 17,1 %, oranges by 7,6 %, apples by 7,1 %, tangerines by 6,8 %, kiwi by 4 %. Prices of bananas dropped by 9,3 %, table grapes by 3,7 %. Higher prices of vegetables were affected by price increases of cauliflower by 21,4 %, onion by 16 %, white cabbage by 13,5 %, potatoes by 12,8 %, parsley by 12,7 %, carrot by 10,1 %, celery by 7,7 %, garlic by 3 %. Prices of pepper decreased by 19,9 %, salad cucumbers by 11,5 %, tomatoes by 9,8 %.

Higher prices in the division of alcoholic beverages and tobacco were affected by rise in prices of alcoholic beverages by 1,4 % (wine by 2,2 %, spirits by 2 %, beer by 0,3 %). Prices of tobacco remained unchanged.

Higher prices in the division of clothing and footwear were affected by increase in prices of footwear by 1,4 %; clothing by 0,5 %.

In the division of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, prices of actual rentals paid by tenants;  services related to maintenance and repair of the dwelling; water supply; refuse collection; sewage collection; other services relating to the dwelling; electricity; gas; heat energy remained at the level of April. Prices of imputed rentals of owner-occupiers rose by 0,2 %;  materials for maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 0,1 %. Prices of solid fuels dropped by 0,6 %.


Higher prices in the division of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance were affected by rise in prices of goods and services for routine household maintenance by 0,6 %; tools and equipment for house and garden by 0,3 %; glassware, tableware and household utensils by 0,2 %. Prices of household textiles decreased by 0,5 %; furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings by 0,1 %. Prices of household appliances remained unchanged.


Drop in prices in the health division was influenced by lower prices of medical products, medical appliances and equipment by 0,3 % (prices of pharmaceutical products decreased by 0,3 %, prices of other medical products increased by 0,3 %; therapeutic appliances and equipment by 0,1 %). Prices of outpatient services; hospital services were at the level of the previous month.

Price increase in transport was caused by higher prices in operation of personal transport equipment by 1,9 % (fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment by 2,3 %, other services related to personal transport equipment by 0,6 %, spare parts and accessories by 0,5 %, maintenance and repair by 0,3 %). Prices of  purchase of transport equipment decreased by 0,9 % (prices of second-hand motor vehicles dropped by 2,1 %, prices of bikes rose by 0,5 %, new motor vehicles by 0,1 %); transport services by 0,2 % (prices of passenger transport by air decreased by 2 %, prices of other purchase transport services increased by 0,2 %, prices of passenger transport by road remained unchanged).

Higher prices in the division of communication were affected by growth of prices of telephone services by 0,1 % (telecommunication services as a package by 1,3 %). Prices of telephone equipment dropped by 0,3 %. Prices of postal services remained unchanged.


Lower prices in the division of recreation and culture affected by decrease in prices of other recreational items and equipment for gardens and pets by 0,7%; package holidays by 0,6 %; audiovisual and photographic technology by 0,1 %. Prices of other major durable goods for recreation and culture – musical instruments  increased by 0,9 %; recreational services and culture; newspapers, books and stationary equally by 0,2 %.

In the education division, prices of pre-primary; primary; secondary; tertiary education; education not definable by the level remained at the level of April.

 
Higher prices in the division of restaurants and hotels were influenced by increases in prices of accommodation services by 3,2 %; catering services by 0,4 % (in restaurants, cafes by 0,6 %, price s in canteens, payment for meals in canteens for pensioners remained unchanged).

Increase in prices in the division of miscellaneous goods and services was influenced by higher prices of personal effects n.e.c. by 0,4 %; personal care by 0,3 %; social protection (payment in social service facilities by 0,2 %); other services n.e.c. equally by 0,1 %. Prices  of insurance (prices of insurance relating to the health rose by 0,8 %, prices of insurance relating to the transport remained unchanged); financial services n.e.c. remained unchanged.


In May 2019 compared with May 2018, consumer prices increased by 2,7 % in total. Prices increased in the divisions of restaurants and hotels by 4,2 %; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 4,1 %; food and non-alcoholic beverages by 3,9 %; miscellaneous goods and services by 2,7 %; alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 2,5 %; health by 2,1 %; furniture and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 1,4 %; recreation and culture by 1,3 %; clothing and footwear; education equally by 1 %; communications by 0,8 %. Prices of transport dropped by 0,5 %.

On average, over the first five months of 2019 compared with the same period of 2018, consumer prices increased by 2,4 % in total.

In May compared with April, index of consumer prices increased in households of employees and in households of pensioners equally by 0,3 %, in low-income households by 0,4%.

In May 2019, index of consumer prices increased, year-on-year, in households of employees by 2,6%, households of pensioners by 3,1% and in low-income households by 2,8%.

On average, over the first five months of 2019 compared with the same period of 2018, index of consumer prices increased in households of employees by 2,4 %, in household of pensioners by 2,8 % and in low-income households by 2,6 %.
