In May, construction output again increased after a two-month decrease. Compared with May 2018, it rose by 1,6 % and amounted to EUR 467,9 million. After seasonal adjustment, it was higher by 0,1 % compared with April 2019.

In May 2019, output realized by domestic construction companies increased by 0,1 %, year-on-year, and amounted to EUR 438,8 million. Its share on the total construction output decreased, year-on-year, by 1,4 p.p. to 93,8 %. The volume of works in new construction, renewals and enhancements recorded a rise for the first time since the beginning of the year, it increased by 1,6 %, year-on-year. On the contrary, repairs and maintenance works decreased by 7,9 %.  In the structure of the domestic output, the share of new construction, renewals and enhancements represented 71,9 % (by 0,9 p.p. higher than in May 2018). The share of repairs and maintenance works represented 24,6 %. In terms of output specification, the volume of works on civil engineering works increased by 0,7 %. Construction of buildings decreased by 0,2 %. Within domestic output, construction of buildings represented 65 %, civil engineering works accounted for 35 %.

Output carried out by non-domestic construction companies increased by 30 %, it comprised 6,2 % of the total output volume.

On average, over the first five months of 2019 compared with the corresponding period of 2018, construction output dropped by 0,9 % and reached the volume of EUR 1 886,5 million. Domestic output decreased by 1,3 %, year-on-year, to EUR 1 774,1 million. Works on new construction, renewals and enhancements dropped by 3,7 % to EUR 1 255 million. The volume of works in repairs and maintenance increased, year-on-year, by 1,3 % and amounted to EUR 466,3 million. In the structure of the domestic output, the share of new construction, renewals and enhancements decreased by 1,8 p.p. to 70,7 %, the share of repairs and maintenance works represented 26,3 %. Non-domestic output increased by 6,9 %.
