Tourism continued to be driven by domestic visitors, their number increased by 24,6 % year-on-year.

In October 2019, the number of visitors in accommodation establishments in the SR reached 572 991 persons, which was an increase by 21,1 % compared with the last year. At the same time, the total number of overnight stays of visitors was 1 444 135 with a year-on-year increase by 17,7 %. This is the highest number of visits in October published since 2006.

Domestic visitors represented 64 % of the total number of visitors, total number of visitors in hotels, pensions and other types of tourism establishments was 366,5 thous. persons and their number rose by 24,6 %.  The number of foreign visitors was 206,5 thous., which was by 15,3 % more than in October 2018.

Visitors spent, on average, 2,5 nights in accommodation establishments, of which domestic visitors 2,6 nights and foreign visitors 2,3 nights. It is less than in October last year, when the average length of one stay was 2,6 nights and domestic visitors spent 2,8 nights in accommodation establishments.

Tourism developed favorably in all regions, the most considerably at the east of Slovakia, the total number of visitors increased by 31,8 % in Prešovský kraj and by 28,3 % in Košický kraj, year-on-year.

For domestic visitors still remain the most sought-after tourist centers in Žilinský and Prešovský kraj, almost 80 thous. visitors stayed in each of them. Their number increased by 31,4 % in Prešovský kraj, it was the highest growth in the regions. At the same time, this region reported the highest increase in the number of foreign visitors (by 33,2 %) in October. However, in absolute terms, the most foreign visitors, up to 93 thous., was registered in Bratislavský kraj (44,9 % of foreigners).

In the first ten months of 2019, 5 518 414 visitors stayed in the SR in total, which represented an increase of 14 % compared to the same period last year. From this number, there were 3 364 113 domestic visitors, who spent 9 921 427 nights in establishments. Year-on-year, the number of domestic visitors increased by 17,2 % and foreign visitors by 9,2 %. The total number of overnight stays was 15 433 779 with a 13,3 % year-on-year increase.

As of end of October 2019, accommodation services were provided by 4 476 accommodation establishments. Their number increased by 11,2 %, year-on-year. There were 70,7 thous. rooms with 185,8 thous. beds. The number of rooms increased by 6,9 % compared to October 2018, the number of beds increased by 8,2 %.
