Development of consumer prices in December 2019

In December 2019 compared with  November 2019 consumer prices decreased by 0,1 % in total.  Prices decreased in the divisions of transport by 0,9 %; alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0,6 %; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0,3 %; food and non-alcoholic beverages; clothing and footwear equally by 0,1 %. Prices of restaurants and hotels rose by 0,2 %. Prices in the divisions of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; health; communications; recreation and culture; education; miscellaneous goods and services remained at the level of November.

In food, prices of oils and fats decreased by 1,5 %; fish by 1,3 %; milk, cheese and eggs by 1,2 %; fruit by 1 %; sugar, jam, honey, syrups, chocolates and confectionary by 0,8 %; vegetables (including potatoes) by 0,3 %; bread and cereals by 0,2 %. Prices of meat increased by 2 %; food products n.e.c. by 0,1 %. Prices of non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 1,3 % (prices of mineral waters, non-alcoholic beverages and juices decreased by 2,3 %; prices of coffee, tea and cocoa rose by 0,2 %).

Lower prices of fruit were caused by cut in prices of kiwi by 14 %, lemons by 13,6 %, oranges by 12,5 %, tangerines by 4,8 %, apples by 1,9 %, bananas by 1 %. Prices of table grapes rose by 45,6 %. Lower prices of vegetables were affected by a cut in prices of parsley by 8,2 %, potatoes by 8 %, carrot by 6,6 %, white cabbage by 6,4 %, onion by 6,2 %, garlic by 2,9 %, celery by 2,7 %, pepper by 1,5 %. Prices of cauliflower increased by 31,6 %, salad cucumbers by 13,1 %, tomatoes by 3,9 %. Price rise in meat was affected by higher prices of pork meat by 6,3 %, beef meat by 1,2 %, sausages by 0,8 %, poultry by 0,7 %.

Lower prices in the division of alcoholic beverages and tobacco were caused by a cut in prices of alcoholic beverages by 1,2 % (prices of wine decreased by 2,2 %, spirits by 2 %, prices of beer rose by 0,3 %). Prices of tobacco remained unchanged.

Lower prices in the division of clothing and footwear were affected by a fall in prices of footwear by 0,3 %. Prices of clothing remained unchanged.

In the division of  housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, prices of actual rentals paid by tenants; imputed rentals of owner-occupiers; water supply; sewage collection; other services related to the dwelling; electricity; gas; solid fuels; heat energy remained at the level of the previous month. Prices of refuse collection rose by 0,3 %; materials for maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 0,2 %; services for regular maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 0,1 %.

Lower prices in the division of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance were affected by lower prices of tools and equipment for house and garden by 0,9 %; goods and services for routine household maintenance by 0,6 %; household textiles by 0,5 %; glassware, tableware and household utensils by 0,2 %; household appliances by 0,1 %. Prices of furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings remained unchanged.

In the health division, prices of outpatient services (prices of medical services, dental services remained unchanged, prices of middle medical staff services – thermal bath rose by 0,1 %); hospital services remained unchanged.  Prices of medical products, medical appliances and equipment increased by 0,1 % (other medical products by 0,3 %, pharmaceutical products, therapeutic appliances and equipment equally by 0,1 %).

A price decrease in  transport was caused by lower prices of transport service activities by 2,1 % (passenger transport by air by 20,5 %, prices of passenger transport by road, other purchase transport service activities remained unchanged); purchase of transport equipment by 1 % (prices of second-hand motor vehicles decreased by 2,3 %, bikes by 0,2 %, prices of new motor vehicles rose by 0,1 %).  Prices of operation of personal transport equipment rose by 0,1 % (other service activities relating to passenger transport equipment by 0,5 %, spare parts and accessories by 0,2 %, fuels and lubricants for personal transport and maintenance and repair equally by 0,1 %).

In the division of communication, prices of postal and telephone services were unchanged. Prices of telephone equipment rose by 0,9 %.

In the division of recreation and culture, there were higher prices of recreational services and culture by 0,6 %; package holidays by 0,4 %; other major durables for recreation and culture-musical instruments by 0,2 %. Prices of audiovisual and photographic technology dropped by 0,8 %, other recreational items and equipment for gardens and pets by 0,5 %; newspapers, books and stationery by 0,1 %.

In the education division, prices of pre-primary, primary, secondary, tertiary and of education not definable by level remained at the level of November.

A price rise in the division of restaurants and hotels was influenced by an increase in prices of catering services (payment for meals in canteens for pensioners by 0,3 %, in restaurants and cafes by 0,2 %, prices in canteens remained unchanged); prices of accommodation services equally by 0,2 %.

In the division of miscellaneous goods and services,  prices of personal care, social protection, insurance (prices of insurance related to health dropped by 0,3 %); financial services n.e.c.; other services n.e.c. remained at the level of the previous month. Prices of personal effects n.e.c. rose by 0,2 %.

In December 2019 compared with November 2018, consumer prices increased by 3 % in total.

Prices increased in the divisions of food and non-alcoholic beverages by 5,2 %; education by 4,5 %; transportation by 3,6 %;  miscellaneous goods and services by 3,5 %; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 2,9 %; alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 2,5 %; recreation and culture by 2,4 %; communications by 1,8 %; restaurants and hotels by 1,5 %; furniture and furnishings  and routine household maintenance by 1,3 %; health by 1 %, clothing and footwear by 0,6 %.

On average, in 2019 compared with the same period of 2018, consumer prices increased by 2,7 % in total. 

In December compared with November, index of consumer prices decreased in households of employees by 0,2 %, in households of pensioners and in low-income households equally by 0,1 %.

In December 2019, index of consumer prices increased, year-on-year, in households of employees by 2,9 %, households of pensioners by 3,2 % and in low-income households by 3,1 %.

On  average, in 2019 compared with the same period of 2018, index of consumer prices increased in households of employees by 2,6 %, in household of pensioners by 3,1 % and in low-income households by 2,8 %.
