Development in February 2020 compared with January 2020 1)

Turnover in internal trade increased in retail trade by 1,7 %, wholesale by 1,4 % and in accommodation by 0,2 % month-on-month. It decreased in sale and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles by 3,6  and in food and beverage service activities by 0,1 %.

Development in February 2020 compared with February 2019

Compared with February 2019, turnover in sale and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by 5 % year-on-year  as a result of lower turnover in sale of motor vehicles, there was a turnover decrease the second month in a row by 7,9 %. It increased in repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and in sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories year-on-year.

Compared with February 2019, turnover in wholesale grew by 2,2 %, in total, the increase was affected year-on-year by higher turnover in wholesale on a fee or contract basis by 23,9 % and in non-specialized wholesale by 8,8 %. Turnover decreased in other service activities year-on-year, the most in wholesale of machinery and equipment.

After a decline that characterized the development of the second half of last year and the first month of 2020, turnover in retail trade increased by 3,9 %. The growth was recorded in most activities, of which the most significant one in retail trade in non-specialized stores by 9,8 % and in retail trade of other household goods in specialized stores by 8,3 %. Turnover decreased only in retail trade not in stores, stalls and markets and in retail trade in stalls and markets year-on-year. It remained unchanged in retail trade of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores.

After a decrease in the previous month, turnover in accommodation again increased, it was higher by 10,2 % in comparison with the corresponding period last year.

Turnover in food and beverage service activities continued to increase, compared with February 2019, it was higher by 19,9 %.

Development over the first two months of 2020 compared with the corresponding period of 2019

Turnover in sale and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by 4,8 % due to a decrease in  sale of motor vehicles by 7,9 %. Turnover increased in repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and in sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories year-on-year.

Total turnover in wholesale increased by 2,6 % as a result of higher turnover mostly in wholesale on a fee or contract basis by 11,1 %, in non-specialized wholesale by 6,1 % and in wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco by 4,5 %. Lower turnover were only in wholesale of agricultural raw materials and live animals and in wholesale of machinery and equipment.

Turnover in retail trade increased by 1,4 %. This growth was affected by higher turnover mainly in retail trade in non-specialized stores by 4,2 %. Turnover decreased in four activities, most significantly in retail trade not in stores, stalls or markets. Turnover in retail trade of automotive fuel in specialized stores remained unchanged.

Turnover in accommodation increased by 4,4 %.

Turnover in food and beverage service activities rose by 19,6 %.
