Turnover in selected sectors of economy in February 2020

Development in February 2020 in comparison with January 20201)

Turnover decreased, month-on-month, in all selected sectors of economy. In industry by 3,9 %, in construction by 2,3 %, in selected market services by 1,5 %, in information and communication by 0,4 % and in transportation and storage by 0,2 %.

Development in February 2020 compared with February 2019

Turnover in industry, after a slight increase in the previous month, decreased again, year-on-year. Compared with February 2019, it decreased by 2,2 %. The development by the SK NACE sections was affected by a decrease in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 8,7 %, manufacturing by 1,5 % and by an increase in mining and quarrying by 11,6 % and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 10,3 %. In terms of particular groupings of industrial sectors, which contributed at most to the total turnover decrease, the most significant drop was recorded in manufacture of transport equipment by 6,3 %, electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 8,7 %, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 6,9 %, manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 1,1 % and in manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c by 2,4 %. Turnover increased mainly in manufacture of wood and paper products by 14,1 %, manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 4 %, manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco products by 5,2 %, other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 6,7 % and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 10,3 %.

In construction, the turnover increased for the second consecutive month, compared with February 2019 it was higher by 2,5 %.

Turnover in transportation and storage2) dropped year-on-year, by 0,7 %, due to a decrease mainly in warehousing and support activities for transportation by 6,1 %. There was a decrease of turnover also in waterway transport. It increased the most significantly in land transport and transport via pipelines.

Turnover in information and communication3) increased, year-on-year, by 10,8 % affected by higher turnover almost in all activities. The total turnover was influenced by a turnover rise mainly in computer programming by 17,5 %.

In selected market services4), the turnover growth continued also in February 2020, it increased in total, by 7,4 %. The highest turnover was in real estate activities by 22,1 %, gambling and betting activities by 17,3 % and in administrative, office support and other support activities by 13,9 %. It decreased only in architectural and engineering activities and security and investigation activities.

In total, turnover in industry dropped by 1 %. The development by SK NACE sections was affected by a decrease in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 8,2 %, manufacturing by 0,1 % and by an increase in mining and quarrying by 10,6 % and in water supply, sewerage and remediation by 9,8 %. In terms of particular groupings of industrial sectors, a turnover drop was recorded mainly in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 8,2 %, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 16,1 %, manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 3,6 %, manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products by 4,9 % and in manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c.by 1,8 %. Turnover increased, year-on-year, mainly in manufacture of wood and paper products by 13,5 %, manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 4,8 %, manufacture of food, beverage and tobacco products by 5,4 %, other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 4,8 % and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 9,8 %.

Turnover of subjects in construction increased by 7,7 %.

In transportation and storage turnover dropped by 1,7 %, year-on-year, affected mainly by a decrease in warehousing and support service activities in transportation by 7,5 %. Turnover decreased, year-on-year, also in waterways transport and air transport. In land transport and transport via pipelines and in postal and courier services a significant increase was recorded.

Total turnover in information and communication increased by 9,9 %. It increased almost in all activities, most significantly in computer programming by 15 % and in information services by 11,5 %. Turnover was lower, year-on-year, in radio and television broadcasting.

In selected market services, turnover increased by 7,3 %. An increase was affected by higher turnover mainly in real estate activities by 21,8 %, gambling and betting activities by 15,1 %, administrative, office support and other support activities by 11,4 % and travel agency and tour operator activities by 27,4 %. It decreased in three activities, mostly in architectural and engineering activities.
