Construction production in September maintained its growth, engineering construction had the fastest pace of progress

In September, construction production increased year-on-year and even accelerated its growth. Mainly new construction progressed. From the perspective of the types of construction, work on civil engineering constructions continued to achieve a growth by almost 20%. On the contrary, the dominant construction of buildings was still lower year-on-year, but the pace of its decline slowed down significantly.

Construction production1) in September 2023 reached EUR 720 million and rose by 6% year-on-year2). After seasonal adjustment, it increased by 2.4% compared to August 2023.

Domestic construction companies realized more than 90% of the total production of the industry. The domestic production of construction companies remained in year-on-year growth for the fifth consecutive month. In September 2023, the value of its growth was 5.3%. The overall growth of domestic construction was influenced by a decisive new construction3) with a year-on-year increase by 8.9%.

From the perspective of the types of construction, construction works for civil engineering (including the construction of roads and motorways) has been increasing for the past 6 months. In September 2023, their volume was almost higher by a fifth year-on-year. On the contrary, the relatively more significant construction of buildings did not reach the level of the same month last year for the seventh consecutive month and it was currently lower by 2.1%.

The work of construction companies realized abroad, which, however, does not represent even a tenth of the total construction production, and rose again after three months of decline, by 11.2% year-on-year.

In total, for the first nine months of 2023, construction production reached a volume of almost EUR 5 billion and at constant prices it increased by 1.7% year-on-year. Only domestic new construction increased by 6.8%, the smaller components - repairs and maintenance decreased by 6.5%.

In the breakdown by types of construction, from January to September of this year, construction production realized on civil engineering constructions showed a year-on-year increase by 19.2%, but the dominant construction of buildings resulted in negative numbers by 4.7%.

The volume of construction work abroad was lower by 3.5% in the nine months as a whole.
