After a rise in the previous month, construction production decreased slightly, year-on-year, in March. It reached EUR 393 million and there was a 0,5 % decrease.  After seasonal adjustment, it was lower by 0,2 % compared with February 2019.

In March 2019 compared with March 2018, output realized by domestic construction companies decreased by 0,5 % and amounted to EUR 369,7 million. Its share on the total construction output increased, year-on-year, by 0,1 p.p. to 94,1 %. Within domestic output,  the volume of works in new construction, renewals and enhancements  decreased the third month in a row, it dropped by 5,6 %, compared with March 2018. Repairs and maintenance works increased by 10,8 %.  In the structure of the domestic output, the share of new construction, renewals and enhancements represented 70,1 % (by 3,7 p.p. less than in March 2018). The share of repairs and maintenance works represented 27 %. In terms of output specification, the volume of works on construction of buildings increased by 2,4 %, works on civil engineering works decreased by 6,8 %. Within domestic output, construction of buildings represented 71 %, civil engineering works accounted for 29 %.

Output carried out by non-domestic construction companies also decreased by 1,5 %.  Its share represented 5,9 % of the total output volume.

On average, over the first three months of 2019 compared with the corresponding period of 2018, construction output rose by 0,1 % and reached the volume of EUR 995,6 million. Domestic output increased by 0,2 % to EUR 935,6 million. The volume of works in repairs and maintenance increased by 6,7 % and amounted to EUR 258,3 million. Works on new construction, renewals and enhancements dropped by 3,3 % to EUR 655,4 million. In the structure of the domestic output, the share of new construction, renewals and enhancements decreased by 2,4 p.p. to 70,1 %, the share of repairs and maintenance works represented 27,6 %. Non-domestic output decreased by 1 %.

 


Note: preliminary data; construction production includes volume of works realized by own employees; including estimation of production for self-employed persons and construction establishments of non-construction enterprises; absolute data are at current prices, indices are calculated from constant prices (average prices of 2015). In March 2019, compared with the same period in 2018 and also from the beginning of the year, the number of working days was coincident.
