Employment and average monthly wage in selected sectors of economy in July 2021

In July 2021, employment increased the most year-on-year in information and communication activities, though the majority of industries recorded a decline, while wages rose year-on-year in all industries.

Employment

In July 2021 compared to July 2020, employment increased the most in information and communication activities, by 6,4 %. It also increased in other sectors, but growth was only up to 1 %. In sale and repair of motor vehicles it increased by 0,5 %, in selected market services by 0,4 % and in industry by 0,2 %. It decreased the most in food and beverage service activities by 4,6 %. It also dropped in wholesale by 3,5 %, in retail trade and accommodation both by 2,9 % in construction by 2,2 % and in transportation and storage by 0,6 %.

On average, over first seven months of 2021, compared to the corresponding period in 2020, employment increased only in information and communication by 2,8 % and in selected market services by 0,5 %. It dropped in accommodation by 15,3 %, in food and beverage service activities by 9,6 %, construction by 6,1 %, wholesale by 5,4 %, retail sale by 3,9 %, industry by 3,1 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 2,5 % and in transportation and storage by 2,4 %.

Average monthly wage

In July, the average nominal monthly wage increased in all sectors, the most in accommodation where it rose by 16,6 % (it reached EUR 876). It also recorded double-digit growth in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 11,6 % (EUR 1 185), in wholesale by 11 % (EUR 1 215) and in selected market services by 11 % (EUR 1 145 euros). There was an increase below 10 % in the activities of food and beverage service activities by 9,9 % (EUR 613), retail trade by 9,5 % (EUR 900), industry by 6,8 % (EUR 1 244), transportation and storage by 6,8 % (EUR 1 111), information and communication activities by 5,2 % (EUR 2 068 ) and in construction by 5,1 % (EUR 822).

In July 2021 compared with July 2020, the average real monthly wage increased the most in accommodation by 12,9 %. It rose also in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 8 %, in wholesale and in selected market services equally by 7,5 %, in food and beverage service activities by 6,4 %, in retail trade by 6 %, in industry and in transportation and storage by 3,4 %, in information and communication activities by 1,8 % and in construction by 1,7 %.

On average, over the first seven months of 2021 compared with the corresponding period in 2020, the wage increased in selected market services by 9,9 % (amounted to EUR 1 123, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 8,7 % (EUR 1 115), in industry by 8,6 % (EUR 1 245), in wholesale by 8,5 % (EUR 1 157), in construction by 8 % (EUR 794), in food and beverage service activities by 7,4 % (EUR 565), in accommodation by 7,3 % (EUR 737), in retail trade by 7,1 % (EUR 849), in information and communication by 6,8 % (EUR 2 138) and in transportation and storage by 6,5 % (EUR 1 070).

The real monthly wage increased year-on-year in selected market services by 7,9  %, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 6,7 %, in industry by 6,6 %, in wholesale by 6,5 %, in construction by 6 %, in food and beverage service activities by 5,4 %, in accommodation by 5,1 %, in information and communication by 4,8 % and in transportation and storage by 4,5 %.
