In August, construction production increased again the pace of growth, a significant progress was achieved mainly by engineering construction
Construction production in August rose year-on-year to the highest level this year. It was supported by a double-digit growth in new construction and a dynamic, more than a third, increase in works on engineering infrastructure.
In August 2023, the volume of construction production1) exceeded the level of EUR 660 million and increased by 4% year-on-year2). After seasonal adjustment, month-on-month (compared to July 2023), the performance of construction enterprises was lower by 0.3%.
The significant domestic construction output rose or the fourth consecutive month, increasing by 5.4% year-on-year in August 2023. The most significant impact on its growth was the increase in new construction, including renewals and modernisations3) by 10.8%. The relatively less significant- repair and maintenance were lower by 7.5% year-on-year.

From the perspective of the production focus, for the fifth consecutive month, the year-on-year volume of civil engineering works (including the construction of roads and motorways) remained higher, by more than 40%. On the contrary, the dominant construction of buildings continued at a year-on-year lower pace, in August by 11.2%. Its year-on-year decline has been persisting for 6 months.
The work of construction companies realized abroad slowed down by 7% year-on-year, its share in the total construction production reached less than 10%.
In total, in the first eight months of 2023, construction production reached a volume of almost EUR 4.3 billion, which at constant prices represented a year-on-year increase by 1.1%. In particular, domestic new construction was higher by 6.5%, the smaller components- repairs and maintenance decreased by 7.4%.
In the breakdown by production focus, from January to August of this year, the construction of buildings, which was more important in terms of share, resulted in negative numbers by 5.1%, but the year-on-year increase by almost 20% was recorded by the construction production realized on engineering constructions.
The volume of construction work abroad was lower by 6.1% in the eight months as a whole.
