In December 2019 compared with December 2018, the marked growth of the number of domestic visitors continued, its growth rate speeded up by 22,1 p.p. to 24,4 %.

The growth rate of the tourism performance indicators which started at the beginning of the year 2019, did not slow down in the last month of 2019 either. In December 2019, the number of visitors in accommodation establishments increased, year-on-year by 20,2 % with the number of 434 478 visitors and it was the third fastest growth in the number of visitors in 2019.

The number of overnight stays developed similarly favourably with the increase by 19,2 % (the second fastest growth of overnight stays in 2019) reaching 1 052 669.

The number of domestic visitors increased more significantly, the growth rate speeded up by 22,1 p.p. to 24,4 %, compared with December 2018. Thus, the number of domestic visitors reached 272,5 thous. persons (it represented 62,7 % of the total number). The number of foreign visitors also grew by 13,7 %, year-on-year (by 8,4 p.p.) to 162 thous.

The visitors spent, on average, 2,4 nights in the accommodation establishments, of which domestic visitors 2,5 and foreign visitors 2,3 nights.

In December 2019, Bratislavský kraj remained to be the most visited region with a growth by 15,6 % it was visited by 131 thous. persons, predominantly by foreigners (65,9 %). However, the highest year-on-year increase was recorded in Prešovský kraj (by 35,1 %) and in Trnavský kraj (by 28,4 %), both for the domestic and foreign visitors. The number of domestic visitors in both regions was higher by more than 30 % (in Prešovský kraj by 39,8 %) and in Trnavský kraj by 31,3 %). The number of foreigners was higher by more than 20 % (in Trnavský kraj by 24,1 % and in Prešovský kraj by 21 %). The total number of visitors grew year-on-year in all regions, similarly the number of domestic visitors also increased in all regions.

In 2019, in the SR, the number of visitors reached 6 432 934, their number increased by 14,9 % year-on-year, compared with 2018. From this number, there were 3 957 840 domestic visitors, who spent 11 452 830 nights in accommodation establishments. The number of domestic visitors increased, year-on-year, by 18,5 %, the number of foreign visitors by 9,7 %. The total number of overnight stays reached 17 703 695 with a year-on-year growth by 14,1 %. Even with this indicator, the number of overnight stays of domestic visitors grew more dynamically, which increased by 16,6 %, year-on-year.

As of end of December 2019, accommodation services were provided by 4 487 accommodation establishments. Their number increased year-on-year by 12 %. There were 71 thous. rooms with 186,2 thous. beds available. The number of rooms increased by 7,9 % compared to December 2018, the number of beds grew by 9,1 %.
